GREAT NEWS: Cheshire and West Chester Council have banned circuses and travelling shows using wild animals! The decision goes beyond prohibiting such acts from council land to any events they endorse/support, a call to partner organisations and tenants to adopt a similar policy, and taking up the issue with government. ADI reached out to councillors ahead of the vote, for which there was unanimous support. Our thanks to the council for voting NO to circus suffering and joining over 200 others in the UK with animal circus bans in place. Another vital step confirming public opposition to wild animals in circuses but long-promised national action is vital.

Now, now, Fish. How long is it since you went to Chester zoo ? Very much on the conservation programme and the sea lions went about 5 yrs ago, not to be replaced.

They're all barbarians in Wales: it's where the British went when the Danes expelled them. grin

I think the winter quarters in Shropshire for some of these circus animals, is even more barbaric, Chris. Typical example of 'out of site, out of mind'.

Wasn't Shropshire part of Wales at one time ? (don't think it was called Wales then)

Was somewhere down Southish the other week on the hottest day of the year . Passed a circus animal carrying lorry parked up in a layeby , not in proper shade and felt so sorry for the inmates . Couldnt see what animals they were through the slats, just movement. Felt very sorry for them . Just not right subjecting animals to constant travelling around the country like this -never mind the sick performances. I used to think it was ok to have animals like performing dogs in circuses as they seem to enjoy learning tricks to please their owners , but soon realized after seeing videos of training , which involves hours of forcing them to stand on their back legs by poking them constantly to disallow normal comfortable standing on four legs . Very very upsetting. In China etc, theres a big following to train and own dogs forced to walk all the time on hind legs, dressed like children .
