Authority seeking to save £18m next year with options such as reducing library opening hours, closing youth clubs and axing school crossing patrols
Posted By: davew3 Re: More Cuts and job Losses - 8th Sep 2014 3:31pm
I see no Councillors or their expenses or directors or managers will be harmed in this cost cutting exercise, time to start cutting from the top and lastly down to the bottom, more money can be saved cutting from the top or are unbreakable contracts abound and not zero hour ones.
Why do we need 3 councillors per ward?

How about cutting council electricity by getting the councillors to "walk " their boundary and while they do it count how many lamposts have the lights on all day, due to faults and tree's, I know one on Barnston road has been on for at least 3 years another one opposite stays on intermittent days and has for 6months.

The salaries are interesting.

...and have we forgotten this ?

Where did they find that amount after crying poverty for so long ?

...and then there's this.

I am a school crossing man and I noticed outside Irby primary they had 2 small plastic standee lollipop men either side of the road to show parents where to cross and warn drivers. I know they don't have a real lollipop person there but maybe they are trialling some councillors bird brained idea. Must get a photo of them

Dread to think what the roads will be like after next winter with no money to spend on them. I've seen better roads in Beirut.

Just as well I'm emigrating, Wirral council won't get any more money from me since I see zero value for my hard-earned.

Oh isn't it amazing to see the outcome of local and national government for years, spending money they didn't have. The chickens are coming home to roost, as the old saying goes...

You get what you vote for and by golly we did, tribalism at it's best, no thought of who can do better and who can do better for the people of the area, my mum/my dad/my grandma/my grandad voted for years for xyz.

Like the voting for the PCC or whatever the name, the one in charge of the local police, it was known before hand an ex Labour mp would get the job, even though you vote for someone else you know your on to a loser around Wirral and Merseyside, democracy at work nah!.

Council Survey on the cuts

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MFVKCRZ

always seems a bit pointless. They ignored the pleas of the Lyndale School users.

IMO its just an exercise so they can make it look like wirral residents decide what to cut.

Like someone said ,do a freedom of info request on council spending and wages
Your local council is as corrupt / bent as the gov '
Remember 900k on a staircase cause of labour?
As with all things its the people at the end of the food chain that get shafted

Regarding libraries, I could understand some cuts in hours having to be made in the present financial climate, losing a day or something, if the suggested reduced opening times weren't so ridiculous. I've heard that some libraries would only open 10am - 2pm, on some weekdays. Where's the sense in that? Are they saying you don't need a library if you work in the day? Wrong. Don't children need somewhere to research school projects? Definitely. Why not have the opening 2pm - 6pm/3pm - 7pm or something? I don't imagine for a moment that everyone does all their research online, or has a Kindle and never feels the need for a library. Our local (new) Childrens Centre is accessed through the library. What happens to that?

I don't know what the figures for library usage are, to be honest, but I suspect many people of all ages would be hurt if the suggested hours are implemented. Does anyone know any more about this issue and how it is likely to play out?

It gets even better, have you seen the 50K contract that was allocated to a consultant but ended up costing 260K? Although the councillor who sanctioned the contract could only authorise contracts for 50K!

Put that into perspective.Call it the entire council tax for 260 properties probably.

The consultant that worked for V4, which was the company they gave £260k to, had to leave his previous job for making unauthorised purchases on his company credit card. Just Google the Rochdale Observer or Link 4 Life with his surname Kilkenny or his bosses name McAteer. His boss did £14.5k on his company credit card in 12 months according to the Rochdale Observer. The 2 of them made 65 staff redundant and then put their own wages up to £120k and £150k a year respectively.

You couldn't make it up, Wirral bring him in and suddenly they are going to make a load of people redundant and they apparently overpay the contract by £100k. It's mind boggling and no-one will take a fall for it, mark my words.

Hmm! I cant see those lollipop standees lasting beyond one or two Saturday nights! Maybe replace them with live councillors - they might be of more use there! OH I SEE!-- the little fellas ARE councillors !
