A MAN had to be rescued by emergency services after he became trapped between a train and the platform at Leasowe Station.

Ambulances and fire engines rushed to the man’s aid at 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

He suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

A spokesman for Merseyrail told the Globe he had tripped while getting off the train at Leasowe and fell down the gap between the train and the platform.

Trains between West Kirby and New Brighton were disrupted for about half an hour while the man was rescued.

Brings back memories of the tragic case of Georgia Varley.

When are Merseyrail going to do something about the gaps between the platform and trains.

Will it take another death before they do something.

If you cant step off a train onto a platform you must have something wrong in you and should not be allowed out on your own. How wide is this gap 10 foot?. If you cant get off the train, don't get on one.. Oh how did they manage to get over the gap to embark ON the train..
I`d leave them where they fell, no time for fools.

the platforms don't match though. some are higher than others, some are bigger gaps than others. trains can't accomodate to the platforms, the platforms need to accomodate to the trains. but it would be MAJOR work re-doing platforms, money they don't necessarily need to spend if people use some common sense and mind the gaps as the massive yellow paint signs tell us to, likewise tannoy systems repeat it also.

tripped while getting off the train. so you say he is a fool for tripping. Am sure he never wanted to trip and end up where he did. I take it you have no time for yourself then.

Take care it says, so he doesn't.. that is a fool.
Maybe he thought mind the gap meant stick it in his pocket.

So many quick to blame the railways, there has to be a gap, people must take some kind of responsibility for themselves and their actions, its an unfortunate accident if the guy was ill and fell, if that's the case, hope he gets well.

Hope he wasn't drunk or taken drugs and it was just an accident, and hope he's ok

Zipper, get a grip. It could have been another who was the fool and put his walking stick in the way. Umpteen reason for him tripping, maybe bad vision , and maybe he was deaf and didn't hear the announcement, if there was one.
Maybe you need to get out more ! .......and not another word from you. noonoo

Hope the gent is ok. What a shock for him !

Coming from someone who works at this and other stations.
The gap at leasowe is one of the worst on the network, narrowly beating Hamilton square.
Some platforms are sinking, and different platforms where built for different trains over the years so there is no uniformaty.
To the point where we have to be specific where we put a wheelchair passanger on because the gap and angle are too big for them.
Would take a very large amount of funding to sort them al out.
