Man in hospital with head injuries after bank holiday incident outside Wirral pub.

A 55-year-old man was in hospital this morning with a head injury after a Bank holiday night out in Wirral.

Shocked witnesses told the Echo a man lay “motionless” on the floor outside the Oak pub in Liscard, Wallasey at around 10.15pm on Sunday.

The incident, on the junction of Liscard Village and Manor Road, unfolded quickly as two ambulances, four police cars and a fire engine attended the scene.

The victim’s friend, who did not wished to be named, said: “I had just come out of the pub for a smoke and he was just laying on the ground.

“My friend told me that someone had just gone over and pushed him for no reason. I am going to go with him in the ambulance.”

People gathered around as police cordoned off the area to the left of the pub and took witnesses to make statements, many could not believe what had happened.

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, enjoying a night out said: “A group of lads came in to the pub and said that a man had had his head cracked open, there is a blood patch on the floor.

“When my mate came and in and told me who it was that had gone down, we just thought, he didn’t deserve that, we are shocked.”

One girl, who was making her way home with friends, said: “There were two men just standing by the pub and then we just saw him drop to the floor while the other man just walked off with a woman.”

Another eyewitness said: “I saw firefighters attending to a person who was laying motionless on the floor and had a foil blanket over them.

“It looked very serious because there were so many police and a fire engine.”

Merseyside Police confirmed today they are investigating.

Let's all hope he is ok. I used to enjoy going in there to watch the bands of a weekend but stopped when it started getting full of the white powder abusers, I don't know if it's still like that as I have not been in for a few years now. Hope he is ok.
