A 40-YEAR-OLD has been found guilty of robbery and possession of class A drugs.

Nazzareno Abela of Linnet Grove, Birchwood, was found guilty at Warrington Crown Court on Friday after a three-day trial.

The charges relate to an armed robbery, which took place at the Spar Shop, in Gorse Covert, Warrington in April this year.

Another defendant Steven Dodd, aged 44, of Moss Lane, Partington, Manchester, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to robbery, possession of imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of Class A drugs.

The incident involved a post office delivery officer who was delivering and collecting large amounts of cash from the shop when he was threatened by a man with a gun who later fled in a car that was waiting for him.

The pair will be sentenced at Warrington Crown Court in November.

Three arrested in connection with murder of Merseyside dad

46-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder; two others charged with assisting offender

Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Merseyside dad.

The arrests come days after police hunting the killer of Mark Reissing launched an appeal in the ECHO asking for the public’s help to trace Nazzareno Abela.

Detectives said Mr Abela had information “vital” to the murder probe.

A 46-year-old man from Wallasey, understood to be Abela, handed himself into a Liverpool police station this afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Two further people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 25-year-old woman from Wallasey was arrested this afternoon while a 30-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Wednesday evening.

All three have been taken to separate police stations on Merseyside for questioning.

The body of Mr Reissing, from Wallasey, was found with head injuries on Manor Lane, near the junction with Egremont Promenade, New Brighton, by a dog walker at 5.50am last Tuesday.

A Home Office post mortem examination indicated the 48-year-old died as a result of “multiple injuries”.

The latest arrests come after two people earlier arrested on suspicion of murder were bailed pending further enquiries.

A 37-year-old woman was bailed last Thursday.

Police were granted extra time to quiz a 41-year-old man from Wallasey by magistrates, but he has also since been released.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses or anyone with information relating to the investigation to call police on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.Merseyside Police confirmed officers are no longer looking to trace Nazzareno Abela following the arrests.
