Lorry falls from bridge on to M56 motorway in Cheshire

A lorry has fallen off a bridge on to the M56 motorway in Cheshire.

The HGV fell on to the westbound carriageway at Junction 11 at Preston Brook, between Warrington and Runcorn, at about 15:15 GMT.

Reports from the scene suggest several vehicles may have collided with the lorry.

The accident has closed the motorway in both directions and emergency services are at the scene.

Anyone notice how it hardly got a mention on national news? Even regionals didn't give it top billing. Very surprising after what happened on the M5 on Friday.
I Notice that as well Gibbo Hardly any mention.

"Police have named the lorry driver who died when his wagon fell off a bridge onto the M56 in Cheshire.

Tony Sainsbury, 42, who was from Walton in Liverpool, was killed in the incident at junction 11 near Warrington just before 15:30 GMT on Monday.

No other vehicles were involved but two passing motorists were treated for shock. The lorry had been carrying household goods.

The motorway was closed, but re-opened at 04:00 GMT after being resurfaced.

A spokesperson for the North West Air Ambulance previously said it was "an absolute miracle" that no-one else had been badly injured in the crash.

The A56 above the motorway, on which the lorry had been travelling, was also shut for several hours but has since reopened.

Anyone with any information about the crash has been asked to contact Cheshire Police."
