POLICE are warning the public to keep shed doors locked when not in use after a power tool was stolen from a house in Birkenhead.

The 'Power Devil' was recovered along with other power tools following execution of a search warrant in the Birkenhead area.

Police are keen to find the owners of the stolen goods. PC Keith Winstanley said: "Ensure tools or other expensive items are kept in the house where possible, or in a secure box.

"Shed doors should be protected with a good quality heavy duty hasp and staple with a closed shackled padlock which should be fitted using coach bolts or non-return clutch screws.

"Shed windows should also be protected using internally fitted grilles or mesh. Shed alarms are cheap to buy, or you could consider extending your house alarm to cover your shed or garage.

"Thieves are often attracted to sheds looking for bicycles so they should always be chained and locked to something fixed or bulky such as a workbench or set of ladders and if there are other bikes in the shed they should all be locked together.

"Low or damaged fencing allows easy access to your property so consider fitting wooden trellis which will break, create noise and attract attention if climbed.

"Spiked toppings can also be used to deter potential offenders."

If anyone has information about the ownership of the router call PC Darren Chandler at Well Lane Police station on 0151 777 2330 or 0151 777 2356. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Should always have a padlock on your back gate as well.
