ONE lane of the M53 southbound was closed this morning after the driver of Vauxhall van drove into a barrier following what police described as a diabetic episode.
Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions four and five at around 11.45am.
A spokesman for the North West Motorway Policing Group, which deals with incidents on the M53, said the vehicle had struck the barrier.
The van was recovered and the carriageway re-opened at 12.30pm.
The driver was taken to hospital for checks.
