Witness appeal - Confrontational burglary at a house in Rockland Road, Wallasey
Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a burglary at a house in Wirral last week.

Officers were called to the home in Rockland Road, Wallasey at around 7.00pm last Thursday (December 9th 2010) after three men broke in and confronted the occupant.

After assaulting the man with a hammer, causing head injuries, they searched the house but fled empty-handed. The victim, a 53-year-old businessman, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment for a head wound.

The offenders are described as wearing black clothing and two were wearing black balaclavas while the other one wore a grey balaclava.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in Rockland Road at the time and may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

Detective Constable Chris O'Connor from Birkenhead CID, said: "This was a serious assault on a family man which has left him with nasty head injuries and in great deal of distress. We are determined to catch the men responsible and would urge anyone who can help to call us".
