THE coastguard, lifeboats, fire service and police helicopter were called out to New Brighton this morning on what appeared to be a hoax call.

A Liverpool Coastguard spokesman said: “We got a call at 3am to say that there was someone in the water in the Vale Park area, south of New Brighton.

“For over two hours we searched the water and beach as it is unusual to get hoax calls at that time.

“However we could find no one or any footprints on the beach to suggest someone may have got out of the water themselves.

“If this was a hoax it puts a massive strain on our resources and is irresponsible.”

THE ECHO
Thats disgusting!
god forgive me for saying this but if only they could catch them, and throw them in the water pond life they are
absolute cnuts. i spend vast amounts of time around our coast fishing and most of the time at silly o'clock at night. i would hate to be in trouble and even anybody else for that matter, and have no one come to your aide because of a hoaxer.
i have the upmost respect for the dedicated men and women in the RNLI, who risk their lives to save others and the fact they rely soley on donations.
it would really make my day and probably life if for some miraculous reason, the hoaxers freinds or family just happened to be stuck in the mud with a rising tide or clinging to a capsised boat whilst they were making their hoax call
there was lots of police down by the sea wall at newbrighton tonight looking out to sea about 5 or 6 cars then the helicopter came over don't know what happend looked like they was searching for someone or something in the water, then when we came out the bowls we seen a small ship out in the water with lots of bright lights on but no signs of the police or helicopter, this was about 2230.
