RSPCA inspectors say the case of a dog tied to railings, then doused in petrol and set alight before being left to die is "as bad as it gets".

Scene of the attack in Kirkdale, Liverpool

The one-year-old bull terrier was tethered to a railing on a sport pitch in Kirkdale, Liverpool, before being burned.

People nearby heard the animal's howling and ran to help, but she could not be saved.

The dog was microchipped, which allowed the RSPCA to track down the owners who told them the dog had been missing for several days.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Simon Small said: "The fact that someone could do this to a living creature is beyond comprehension

"It doesn't get worse than what happened here.

"This dog suffered tremendously before she died. This was a deliberate act of extreme cruelty of the type I hope I never see again."

Officers have now released an image of the dog after the attack in the hope of encouraging people to come forward with information.

I've always believed people can be born evil and this only strengthens that belief. No manner of deprivation in an up bringing can turn someone in to doing this, this is evil at its worst and i only hope they are caught and dealt with, with the utmost severity.
cry My god, that poor dog. Whoever has done this must be sub-human, born killers. Id like to set them on fire and hear their howls......and ignore them. hope I dont upset anyone by saying that.

totally agree with you!
I feel sorry for the owners, to know that that's how your pet suffered, that would devastate me if someone did that to my dog

I hope they are caught but no doubt the punishement won't fit the cruelty of the crime
These "people" are sub-human. I hope they burn one day too.

update

Liverpool dog owner forced to listen as pet set on fire......
The owner of a dog burned to death on a Liverpool playing field was forced to listen to the horrific moment his pet was torched by sick yobs.

The ECHO understands the callous killing was part of a growing underworld feud that has seen two city gangsters go against each other in recent weeks.

And the owner himself was arrested on Friday as police staked out this weekend’s amateur football to stop any reprisal attacks.

It is believed the one-year-old black and white Staffordshire bull terrier-cross was snatched from a group who had been on the William Collins playing fields, off Stanley Road, Kirkdale, last Sunday.

The crowd had been on the fields hoping to watch the Sunday league football match between the Western Approaches and Britannia VNC.
But soon after midday, the area was swamped with police after a shooting at the pitchside changing rooms.

Several shots rang out from a white van in the car park but no-one was hit. An under-12s match was abandoned by the referee after the shooting.

James ‘Pancake’ Taylor, 30, from Kirkdale was arrested on suspicion of affray
in connection with that incident. He is currently on police bail after being questioned.
And the dog’s owner, a 46 year-old from West Derby, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of having the gun used in
the shooting. He was later released on bail.

Sources say the dog was grabbed from the man later on Sunday and thrown into the back of a car, which sped away from the scene.

Then, at around 8.20pm on Tuesday, the owner was called on his mobile and was
forced to listen as sick yobs poured petrol on his pet and set her on fire.

Residents ran to help the dog, which was tied to a post, but a vet had to put her down because the burns were so severe.

Angry residents labelled those responsible as “not human”.

Merseyside police are now investigating both incidents at the playing fields.

Police were yesterday at the game being played on the William Collins field involving Lobster FC and at Scargreen Avenue, where the Western Approaches were playing, in a bid to defuse any simmering tensions.

Anyone with information should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 8658 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

That's why we never can. By word, deed, and example we have to set the right example, especially to our children. I despair sometimes when I think of the world my children are inheriting. Thank God there are more good people than bad, one day these sub-humans will get their come-upamce. What goes around.....
