Twelve arrested as part of crackdown on crime in Moreton





TWELVE people were arrested as part of a clampdown on crime in Moreton last week.

The police, working alongside the Department of Work and Pensions, DVLA, British Transport Police, Wirral's Anti-Social Behaviour team, licensing officers and the Local Education Authority, executed a number of warrants across Moreton last Wednesday.


As part of the day of action 63 vehicles were stopped, with six cars seized for not having tax or insurance.

In addition, a truancy sweep was carried out with the Local Education Authority. Seven youths were stopped and asked why they were not in school. Five of those were taken back to their schools.

Several pubs were visited by licensing officers resulting in two receiving warnings for breaches and one was temporarily closed down for not having a licensee in situe.

A safety arch was at placed at Moreton Railway Station and a metal detecting wand at Moreton Youth Club - no weapons were found - and a mobile police station was set up in Town Meadow Lane for community reassurance.

Three men were arrested for drug-related offences, including a 32-year-old man, who was charged with possesion of controlled drugs (Cannabis).

A 22-year-old man was given a caution for possession of Cannabis and a 17-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis was released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 43-year-old man who was arrested for theft has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. A 19-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with assault and attempted robbery.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with a public order offence and a 31-year-old man arrested for a public order offence and possession of a Cannabis received a caution.

In addition, five people were arrested for unpaid fines leading to the recovery of £6,552.69 and two people received fines for driving offences.

Acting Sergeant Wayne Thomas, from Moreton and Wallasey Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This operation was carried out with our partners to tackle community concerns in the area and we hope it sends out a strong message to residents that we take their concerns seriously and will take positive action against anyone found to be breaking the law.

"Our Police Community Support Officers delivered 250 neighbourhood newsletters and public reassurance letters in the area advising residents of the action we have taken and we will continue to act against anyone found to be making the lives of innocent people a misery."
