Wirral bin sack collection pledge as a 'one-off' to help confused householders

Wirral Council is appealing to residents to check their new waste collection calendars after a number of households forgot that their collection day had changed or put out the wrong bins.

On November 16, the council introduced changes to some collection rounds in order, they say, "to make the service more efficient."

To compensate for the fact that some residents failed to put their bins out, the council has agreed to collect any refuse bags left next to wheelie bins on the next green collection date.

David Green, Director of Technical Services explained: “We used a number of different channels to inform residents of the changes before they were implemented.

"New calendars were delivered to all households setting out collection days for green and grey wheelie bins and information was sent to the local media and published on the council’s website.

“We are keen to assist people who have missed their first collection and have agreed to collect refuse sacks put out with green wheelie bins as a one-off measure to deal with extra waste that may have been acquired.

"I must point out that this can only happen on the next collection and will not be a weekly occurrence. The collection rounds will now remain the same for the next two years and the success of the service will rely heavily on people reading their calendars and ensuring that the right bin goes out on the right day.”
