wheelie bin collection days set to change

WIRRAL residents are being urged to keep their eyes on their letterboxes over the next two weeks as important details about their bin collections are being delivered.

For many households, the latest calendars will show changes in the days that their green and grey wheelie bins are collected.

This is because Wirral Council and its contractor Biffa have restructured collection rounds to make the service more efficient.

The new collection dates are effective from Monday, November 16, with delivery of the new calendars set to begin from this weekend.

The calendars will set out collection days for both green and grey bins for the next two years.

If people haven’t received their new calendars by November 15, they should contact Streetscene on 606 2004.

From November 14, residents will also be able to find out details of their collection dates on the Waste and Recycling page of the Wirral Council website by typing in their street name.

Cllr Jean Quinn, cabinet member for Streetscene and transport services, said: "A lot of work has been put into ensuring that, where collections days are changing, there is a smooth transition.

"However, a large part of this process will be reliant on residents reading their calendars and heeding the advice, ensuring the right bin goes out on the right day."

Redesigning the bin collection routes will bring a number of environmental benefits and savings to tax payers, the council said.

Cllr Gill Gardiner, cabinet member for environment, said: "The changes will reduce the number of miles the collection crews have to travel, which will mean a reduction in the amount of fuel they use, which will both save money and help the environment."

Saving money eh? I suppose that means they will reduce the Council Tax bill. Our lot over here are changing ours as well, they're all at it. Raising bills and reducing services, great.

This is another reason I like my flats... just drop the rubbish down the shoot and forget about it lol. No worrying about seperating rubbish or getting fines etc. Dunno when they collect it, don't need to know, its their problem not mine haha. Another reason im gutted that they want me to move out and reluctant to do so!!
oh great another bin collection change. this better not be fortnightly

Our brown one has gone to monthly, fair enough in winter, not so much gardening being done but they could have waited until the weather went crap. They bang on about money being saved but what do they do with the saved money? Round here they build stupid sculptures about which we are all expected to be enraptured but they're crap, and I like art and design.

They changed our brown bin to Wednesday about a month ago. We haven't had a collection yet. I'm sure this would be a hanging offence on the continent, they don't stand for shit like this.
