Opening the door wasn't sensible. Leaving them closed when the water got up to the door line could well have kept the interior dry due to the door seals.

I think there needs to be a warning to these idiots with 4x4s that think 'Hey I own a 4x4 therefore I can drive along the beach and come to no harm!'
