Eubank hosts poetry event at Wirral school

CHRIS Eubank was guest of honour at a special poetry reading at Kingsmead School in Hoylake.

The British world champion boxer, renowned for his measured diction and love of poetry, was invited to host the February 26 event by his representatives, Wirral-based law firm Beech Jones De Lloyd, who are supporters of the school.

The recital focused on courage, taking inspiration from Wirral poet, Wilfred Owen who was born in Oxton and died at the end of World War One in a battlefield trench.

Afterwards, Chris was the subject of a question and answer session.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the recital at Kingsmead. The poems by the children were excellent.

“Poetry is a great way for people, young and old, to express themselves and expression is extremely important for young people.

"Poetry can empower them and give them a voice - it’s a peaceful and powerful way of articulating opinions and points of view.

“The choice of topic, ‘Courage’ was very inspiring. Whether it be a boxer getting into the ring, a young person standing up for what they believe or a soldier going to war, courage is a great trait that takes many forms.”

The poetry recital proved to be an inspirational and memorable occasion for the pupils taking part in the recital.

Similarly, the ‘Evening with Chris Eubank' event was a unique, exclusive event and an opportunity for guests to talk directly to the sports hero in a relaxed and intimate setting.
