Facebook hoaxers go into hiding - 17th Feb 2009 2:27pm
TWO Liverpool fans were lying low today after they tricked a hapless Manchester Utd supporter into travelling 400 miles to meet a “woman” he fell in love with online.
Stuart Slann, 39, drove from his Sheffield home to Aberdeen last month to meet “Emma” – a girl he met on social networking site Facebook.
But when he got there he found she had been created by the rival fans he met on holiday in Mexico in November.
A phone call to the married Manchester United fan received from the two Liverpool supporters revealing the hoax has now attracted almost 50,000 hits on YouTube.
In the phone conversation the men asked Mr Slann: “Do you recognise our voices, Stuart? It’s them Scouse lads who threw you in the pool. Do you recognise our Scouse accents?”
He replied: “Yes I do.”
He was told: “You’ve been framed,” by the men who then burst into laughter.
Mr Slann’s wife has since reportedly left him.
He added: “When I got the call to say it was all a hoax I just felt awful.”
