MOTORISTS have paid more than £23m in parking fines to local authorities in the region in the last 12 months, the Daily Post can reveal.

Drivers in Liverpool paid more than £7m, in Sefton almost £4m and in Wirral more than £3m.

Astonishingly, just three private cars were responsible for £20,000 of those fines, the majority of them still unpaid.

The worst offender amassed 164 parking tickets around Liverpool city centre – with 153 of them still outstanding.

In Southport a single Ford Fiesta has been issued with 100 tickets – and not one has been paid, while Wirral’s worst parked car attracted 71 parking tickets last year.

Local councils released the figures following a Freedom of Information request.

It also revealed that council parking wardens were most likely to strike at the Central 12 Shopping Park in Southport, Europa Square in Birkenhead and the Mount Pleasant car park in Liverpool.

Officers from Merseyside Police issued most tickets on Aigburth Road in south Liverpool and St John’s Lane at the rear of St Georges Hall.

I say make more parking in Birkenhead. You can park anywhere in London and that's meant to be car-unfriendly. It's even worse up here, you cannot park anywhere!
