A CRIMEWATCH appeal was made tonight (Monday) for information about an attempted armed robbery at a Bebington bank.

Lloyds TSB is offering a £100,000 reward to help catch a man who attacked two a member of the public and a security guard during an attempted robbery of its Old Chester Road branch on August 12.

The BBC’s Crimewatch programme will show a reconstruction of the incident.

Police were called to the branch at around 1.15pm after a man entered the bank as a security guard was making a cash delivery.

The guard was knocked to the floor and a member of the public who tried to intervene was attacked with a knife.

After leaving the branch, the offender ran off along King’s Lane through the car park of the King’s Arms public house over a wall onto a pathway into Galtress Park near to the Tesco Metro store. He did not escape with any cash.

The man is described as white, in his late twenties/early thirties, approximately 6ft tall and of medium to stocky build.

He was wearing a light coloured shirt, a waterproof jacket (the top half was cream or white, the bottom half was royal blue or navy blue), dark trousers, white trainers, a black beanie hat with a square logo on the front and back and large-framed dark glasses.

Detective Inspector Anne Molyneux said: "The use of a knife made this a particularly nasty offence and I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.

"We have already completed a number of lines of enquiry as part of our investigation and I am now appealing to anyone with any information that may help us to identify this man, to come forward. You may hold valuable information, which could assist us to arrest and convict the offender."

Anyone with information relating to the robbery should contact the Matrix Robbery Team on 0151 777 5810, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Last week I posted that the Police helicopter had attended another armed bank robbery in Bebington but there was nothing on the news - I reckon they were filming this reconstruction which is why nothing was reported! Good news eh!
I hope the reconstruction helps them

Apparently the nationwide on seaview road (attached to simply mortgages) suffered an serious attempted robbery last week. The robbers tried to go through the wall into the safe, made a hell of a mess but got away empty handed. The shop is still closed.
We had to pay our takings into the Birkenhead Nationwide branch & it was their staff who told us this is what happened, as it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.

Wonder if they're connected in any way?

Don't these clowns know that, with the credit crunch, the banks don't have any money at the moment so they'll be nothing to steal if they were sucessful!

Seriously though, it does appear that there's a spate of these attempted robberies at the moment - we need to catch these thugs before someone gets killed!
