its mad init they can find £45m for this doh

PLANS for the next phase of New Brighton's £45m waterfront development have been unveiled.

Details of the Neptune Developments project, which includes a 60-bed Premier Inn, 1000-seat digital cinema and Morrison's Supermarket and new seafront promenade were revealed at the Floral Pavilion, which was part of the first phase and is due to open on December 13 with a gala performance featuring Ken Dodd.

Outline planning permission was received early this year and the first detailed application was approved in August.

This is the second and final detailed application and is due to be submitted by NJL Consulting at the end of December. Construction work on the project is due to begin in March next year

Steve Parry, Neptune Development's managing director, said: "This will be the final major planning application for our New Brighton project and we are delighted to be getting underway with the main body of the scheme.

"The completion of the new Floral Pavilion demonstrates the quality of the whole project and we are proud to be launching phase 2 in this exciting new theatre."

He continued: "We are pleased to announce that the operator of the hotel will be Premier Inn and we expect to be able to announce more big name end-users in the coming months. We will continue to work closely with Wirral Council to deliver this new dawn for New Brighton."

Council leader Steve Foulkes told the Globe: "I think the completion of the new theatre is a landmark and real feather in the cap for everyone involved in its construction.

"Phase Two will be a chance for New Brighton to come out of its recession and a chance to keep people here for longer for more days of the year.

"It's still a nice pleasant place to visit now on a sunny day. But when it's raining or the middle of winter we need anchor projects to bring people in and that's the key behind the supermarket which has probably been the most controversial phase.

"The supermarket is part of the bigger complex. It's about getting more people, more often along this fantastic stretch of waterfront."

WHAT? a morrisons is going to get people comming to New Brighton in the winter? They having a laugh or something? Why dont you take your morrisons and shove it up your a*** Steve why on earth would you ruin New Brighton with that Yellow eyesore which is trying to beat the credit cruch with its stupid deals yet when you go there its expensive as f*** honestly leave New Brighton with its theatre and other attractions NOT a stupid supermarket. Like the idea of the premier though cause if your bored or had a row with the missus go there for a nights breather and plus it'l be great for a Wirral Show two nighter ? anyway i'll shoosh!
With Tesco on the decline, Morrisons would probably be a good investment.

However, they are building an Asda just down the road from Tesco as it is, as part of the Wirral Waters development, Wallasey is going to be like a mecca of grocery shopping lol...

i did hear that asda has been knock back on building one there. think
Councillers take bungs, don't worry. Id rather have an Asda personally, Tesco needs some real competition at Bidston, and Morrisons won't provide that even if it was located next door, never mind in the back and beyond of New Brighton.
Long as it doesnt effect New Brighton Rally

I heard rumours that the Bidston Tescos was moving anyway, but with all the investment they are making within that store I cant see it happening, but what happened to the duel-storey carpark that they were raving on about in their foyer, with big billboard style poster of coming soon features.

As a Wallasey Village resident and regular visitor to New brighton (dont know why coz there nothing there, but that may be the attraction) Im all for Morrisons to be built at new brighton (aslong as it doesnt obscure the view of the Fort and lighthouse in the same view). any investment is a good investment, and with the money saved for the locals (me included) from shopping at morrisons they will have more money to spend on the new attractions. And with announcement to close Guinea gap baths, the New brighton re-generation needs to go ahead more than ever.
