pissing out the top? out of where? could simply be a rocker cover gasket, cheap as chips and able to DIY. OR is it coming from the block/head joint?

not sure mate but just after i brought the car it had a leak so i took it back to the garage and had it fixed under warranty they said it was the rocker cover so it could be leaking again

God damn vauxhall engines, there is a rule with the red top engine, if it isnt leaking oil then you have a problem.

I beleive that the eco-wreck (lol) engine doesnt have this problem. i would say the head gasket hasnt been seated properly. i wouldnt think its anythink major if the car is running fine.

itll be the rocker gasket again i reckon,is it getting replaced under warranty?? cos if its the head gasket its not gonna be cheap

no warranty ran out last month so its on my head. seems to be quite a lot of oil tho and it only leaks when i drive it. frown

it better not cost more than a 100 quid coz i just cant afford it

The Vectra XE engine is common for the camcover gasket to leak, and when it does it floods the spark plugs - Once fixed you will notice the performance you should have.

It wont cost more than £100, am not sure but a new gasket from Vauxhalls should be no more than £20 and then Id allow the same for labour. Its an easy job, only part they need to be careful of is how to remove the oil bcos you cant remove the sparkplugs and 'drop' it into the cylinders really - I used to use old rags and try and absorb as much as I could out, then using the same technique I 'blew' it out with an air line

it wont be an xe in a vectra it will be an ecotec
Posted By: Dazza Re: Oil Leak - 11th Jun 2006 1:25pm
Well you get what I mean, even if am not clued up on Vauxhall engine codes - Could have sworn they done a XE and a XE1 in the Vectra's tho (My dad had the XE1)

jus making sure no trying to put u down i know that u know ur shit on fords an i jus know i bit on vaux motors not loads but jus enough. it will be an ecotec which the engine code may be similar but the engines are very diffrent. if i was you johny vectra id go to a motor factor an buy ur self a gasket an see if u can do it ur self an save £80 dont think it wud be the hardest job i had the rocker cover of my xe an put it back on an its quite st8 forward shud invest in a hynes manual

the red top engine is the C20xe the later version is the X20XEV which is what is in the vectra sri140

Rocker cover gasket is piece of piss to remove mate and i really do suggest u do it urself,or maybe even join the midnight bodging club and do it down the rock with a few members to make sure u do it right. And deffo make sure the top of the plugs are clear of oil and crap, i used a long screwdriver with paper towels over the end to clear my spark plug area after the engine had been sat poorly covered for a few months

Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Oil Leak - 13th Jun 2006 10:17am
scoop you nutter i would do a bloddy rocker gasket at the rock. maybe my brakes or a zorst but never any engine work incase it went t1ts up
Posted By: jonny vectra sri Re: Oil Leak - 13th Jun 2006 12:20pm
it was rocker gasket £48 supplied and fitted plus £10 engine clean £58 in total plus vat.

Daz.Replacing a rocker cover CANNOT go tits up unless u have a destructive personality and decide to start hitting ur cams with a mallet during the change lol. Then again,i managed to shear a bolt while changing my cam cover, which resulted in extracing the bolt shank using bodge techniques taking half an hour. So the whole cam cover change took ages lol. But put it this way, i could go out to my car now and remove my cam cover, change the gasket and replace the cover in under 5 minutes.

if you know what your doing. it can be simple. but to a total novice i wouldnt try it. i could do mine but i wont. just incase.
Posted By: Dazza Re: Oil Leak - 13th Jun 2006 6:29pm
WTF is a bolt shank.
You could allow the gasket to sit wrong and it leaks - Thats one thing an amater could do wrong.

Either way Jonny got it sorted and for not a bad price smile
Posted By: scoop Re: Oil Leak - 13th Jun 2006 6:50pm
the shank is the main part of the bolt. IE/ not the head the head and half the shank had came away so i had to saw a line in the top of the remaining shank to use a flat-blade screwdriver on it to get it out
