I fitted this a while back now on my Escort 6, (1998 Si) and when fitting the new linkage it will rub on the fan cover, therefore i needed to get a heat gun and a piece of wood to re-mould the fan cover, simple but effective and the single wiper conversion looks great now.

The heat gun i used was just your basic one used for DIY decorating. Just a warning though...they do get extremely HOT...

i've been thinking of doing a single wiper conversion for a while now but im just wondering if there's any difference in the "performance" kinda thing. when i say performance i dont mean does it make you go any faster, but does it take any more/less water off the screen etc?

cheers

at 70quid its a smart mod and an affordable one at that. was it easy to install?

They can fail MOT b'cos they 'rest' in center of screen and can be classed as an obstruction.

Different kits rest in different places i think

wouldn't be buying a kit to do it john, know a couple of ways how to DIY its, you can use your current wiper arm but i'd be on the look out for a Fiat Uno one or something, where its straight all the way up it cool

The kit can be adjusted to park on either driver, centre, or passenger side quite easily. I put mine on the drivers side, just personal preferance.

I think it works better than the ford wipers that came on mine as standard and is less noisy too.

Simple to install, just the re-moulding of the fan cover on my car, that is easy as long as you are confident with that sort of stuff....takes around an hour....unless u turn the nut the wrong way and damage the motor....doh!!

my old car had a centre parking wiper arm and never failed the mot

I think it all depends on how the MOT tester is feeling on the day. I've heard of it failing and at other times not....not too sure on this one because it doesnt seem to be a rule thats set in stone...

Kind regards,
Dan

The rule is set in stone about a wiper resting in the centre position on your windscreen, Its a black & White failure, its classed as an obstruction !!!! It should fail by Law.

What is NOT set in stone is the MOT testers consistancy or opinion's.

smack Whoops, my bad.....Cheers for corecting me!

You can just set it back to a passenger side/ driver side park when it comes to the MOT. But i dont know how picky the law is about it.....If you get pulled for something else i suppose they might decide to check all of your mods....

Takes 5 minutes to change it back for the MOT tho!
