As everyone knows, me car sounds like a bag of poop cos the cam shafts gone, just wondered if anyone knew of anywhere I could go to get it sorted? Best quotes I've had so far are £300 from Merseyside Engine Parts in Birkenhead and £270 from Stanton Autos (also in Birkenhead). Any one know any cheaper?

also to keep people up to date, the alternater had a fault on it and wasnt charging the battery, so I've had that recon'd this morning, £45, I aint complainin considering I was quoted near enough £90 for a new one supplied and fitted

Check e-bay and loot matey - look for XR2's or 1.6 CVH Escorts for spares or repair - MOT expired kinda things with good engines smile

Shame I dont see my mechanic mates anymore, we would of fitted it for cheap.

When we got engines we just went the local scrappies, they usually give you free delivery on engines, just make sure you have a good engine hoist, ours bent lifting a 1.4 corsa engine lol

1.6 CVH's are known for the tapping. This can be fixed by £35 from Auto Parts, Partco as you can get the Huydrallic tappets new. (Pattern of course). Just whips the rocker cover off, new cork gasket, and swap em over. Do a oil change so its new oil inside the a tappets and you have a quiet engine.

Also worth cleaning the breather pipes out too, i had to get a blow torch on muy old rocker cover to get all the gunk out of the breather pipe which was build into the top. Took ages with a blow torch and a coat hanger..

I had the XR2i, so i had the injection module to get past, but the cover does come with a little elbow grease.

Also to get the alternator re-done cost me £35 from some firm on the penyfford - buckley road in a little estate by the side of the road, cant remember the name but was same day turn round.

Just remember to fit the tension bracket the correct way otherwise the alternator wont move and the belt smells bad.

Best mates a ford mechanic, if advice is needed...
