Okay, i need a new clutch because my bite has been getting higher and now the clutch has started "sticking" so its time for a new one.

Only had 1 price so far and that was £145 fitted. Anyone suggest a reputable place where they do good work and their prices are fair. Dont mind paying more if the work is actually going to be top notch....although replacing a clutch is simple for any garage i'm a bit picky about who i let mess with my car! lol.

I am in Ellesmere Port but don't mind travelling for a decent price!

kind regards,
Daniel

Danny, go to M53ford in ellsmere and speak to andy the mechanic, tell him i ask him to use his staff discount on the job and ull get it done for cheaper than a non franchise place

I have worked for 4 Main Dealerships to date, one of them being a service manager for a short time and i walked out of all four places.

You really dont want to know what goes on behind closed doors at a main dealership.....

People presume that because its a main dealership the job will be to the highest standards, NOT.... These places are generally worse than most independant garages.

I cannot comment on the dealership mentioned here, just saying to be carefull.

Also avoid Clutch & Gearbox centres, been there and done that also, allot of them only replace one part of the clutch and often with a secondhand part at that because you are not going to remove the gearbox to check are you ??

Hope this helps you a little and choose carefully.

Try Autosafe Garage mate, there based in Rock Ferry - top work and you can trust them to look after your car too. Fair price and a top job done every time! happy

ah right, thats cool. Do you have any idea on a rough price for a new clutch for a 1998 Escort 1.8? All in? And also how long you would need the car for?

Does anybody know if its the kind of job that can be done in a day, eg get the parts and have it fitted all the same day? First i gotta find somewhere reputable AND with a slot open

It can be done in a day. About a 4 hour job i believe. cant be any more than 6 hours tho

my dad is stressing me out tellin me to just go wherever does it cheapest, i tried explaining that backstreet garages and clutch centres will do a shoddy job but he doesn't believe me. How naive.....

Does anyone know any decent garages in ellesmere port that can be trusted, because i am yet to find one to be honest.....

I am going to ring autosafe this morning aswell but i am trying to find somewhere to do it today ideally, not much luck of that though frown

Me and my mates done a clutch in an escort GTI, it was totally shot, nice easy(ish) job to do, drove really nice afterwards, but for all the hastle it causes for saving about £30'ish i would advise taking it to scooby's garage where he has all the correct equipment and labour knowledge.

I can confirm that the trip would be worth it, i have been to the garage many times in the past and have never had any bad work, infact you could go as far as saying i have a 100% pleased rate from his garage, and the prices are reasonable.
