at the moment ive got 240mm discs on the front and drums on the back of my car.
I was thinking of getting 260mm ones on the front and having the rears converted.

I know my car aint fast enough to justify having it done, but it'll look cool as fook behind some nice rims laugh

what do you reckon the pro's and con's are of having it done?

its a good idea to up your brakes that way when you mod you engine you already got good stoppers you dont just need to get biger disks you could just get better calipers as for the back i dont know i've got larger disks and 4 pot calipers on the front but at the back i've still got drums i think disks look better so if you can go for it

i've heard of people putting cossie discs and brakes on the front of fiesta's without any trouble, but not to sure about the rear, there wouldn't be any mounts for the calipers would there? confused

the rear ones would have to be totally converted. A tricky job, but it'd be easy for experienced mechanics who've done it before. If i get it done, i'll probably go to a place just outside of Leeds that specialises in stuff like that.

how much would it be? have many people with Ka's done this before?

r there n e ka's that have rear discs??? if so try an get them off that model coz it will be an eiser job then. im tryin 2 get hold of a 16/rsi/williams clio atm coz i want the brakes off that an the interiour an the engine and n e thin else i can take off it!! ha ha

na, they dont make Ka's with rear brake discs. and its not something i would like to try myself. it costs 325quid for a set of 250mm rear discs and calipers. that includes labour and VAT.

It has been done before on other Ka's and its supposed to reduce the braking distance no end.

how about just a front brake conversion from a Focus RS or a Escort or Sierra Cossie? wud cost a hell of a lot less whilst still improving braking and look nice (at the front anyway)

...just a thought tease

sounds like a good idea, but i think its a straight swap with Puma discs. Cossie or focus ones would need a fair bit of work to get them on

would it not just be adjusting/modifying the mounting bracket of the caliper to put cossie of focus brakes on?

if the puma ones are a straight swap then are they going to make any difference in braking performance? confused

yeah, cos theyre bigger discs. an extra 20mm bigger than mine

ahhhhh, hmmm, how about some cross drilled or groved discs that are meant for a puma?
Posted By: lazy_ben Re: brake disc conversion - 13th Jul 2004 5:37pm
thats what I'd like to get. Puma sized discs and calipers, but uprated ones laugh

ahhhh ok i see what you mean now. the puma ones would look sweet, but if you got the money then go for the uprated cossie brakes cos they are massive eek laugh
