hi just puttin this up for a friend as he wants to know if anybody has a rough idea of below:

just wondering how much a new engine, say a 2.0L, labour and all the other bits and bobs that are needed for a full engine conversion on a Corsa B currently running a 1.0L 12v...

may look into it as a good reason to keep current corsa

its not a bad price cos you can do it in your garage over a weekend withthe right tools. the engine will cost about 400 and the kit about another 100. its only rough.
Posted By: lawton Re: Corsa Conversion - 11th Jun 2005 10:37am
it will be more than that cause you`ll need a decent engine, say about £500 and then the conversion kit from one of the big companies which i think will cost about £600 and then if you cant do the engine conversion yourself then your lookig at aleast another £500 upwards for someone to drop the engine in. hope that helps
Posted By: GazzA Re: Corsa Conversion - 11th Jun 2005 11:16am
yer, i've seen engines on ebay for a few hundred quid which would work a treat wink

Try one of the scrap yards, my mate got a 1.8 put in his corsa for £700 - £800, and thats with everything u need. Them doing it, engine, kit etc:

Just make sure its in good con tho!!!!
Posted By: Basskiddanny Re: Corsa Conversion - 11th Jun 2005 9:55pm
are you going to tell the insurance company about the conversion?
Posted By: DavidB Re: Corsa Conversion - 11th Jun 2005 10:18pm
Say you're putting a 1.4 16v in. They have similar cam covers to the 2.0's, so if anything bad happens, at face value it'll still look like the noted engine.

Surely you would have to upgrade the brakes, suspension etc.

Would you not be better cutting your losses and buying an older, more powerful car?
Posted By: scoop Re: Corsa Conversion - 13th Jun 2005 8:47pm
the 1.0s are incredibly basic. I agree a better base car wud be needed. At least somethin with 2.0 matching brakes. However if the corsa is n e thin like the scort they all have the same brake and suspension set-up lol. Even the escort GTi had feeble brakes like shreks. Only the RS2000 had bigger units
Posted By: Basskiddanny Re: Corsa Conversion - 16th Jun 2005 1:35am
Brakes on the escort 1.8 need upgrading even when running standard power if you want to drive it as hard as it can be driven.

I think you should buy a better base car. might even be cheaper in the long run.
Posted By: Dazza Re: Corsa Conversion - 16th Jun 2005 1:44pm
1.8 had same brakes as the 1.6 except some 1.8GTI's had rear discs. RS2k had bigger/better brakes but that was cos its 150BHP plus 2/4wd
Posted By: Basskiddanny Re: Corsa Conversion - 17th Jun 2005 11:59pm
4wd drive is stupid for the RS2000 its not powerful enough and that just makes it slow when you get a 4x4.

Never knew the GTI was ever made with rear discs? Well never seen one anyway.
Posted By: scoop Re: Corsa Conversion - 18th Jun 2005 12:14am
ive never seen nor heard of a rear disked GTI either. EVER.The RS2000 4x4 is a good idea tho i think, needs some more oomph to make it go like but itd be helpful in the wet. Or how bout just RWD.wow

I PHONE THEM MONTH AGO BEFORE I GOT RID OF THE SPORT AND THATS HOW MUCH THEY TOLD ME!

You'll need from the donor car:
C20XE engine, drive shafts (including CV joints), radiator, ECU, gearbox selector and linkage, all pipes and hoses, starter motor, alternator and ignition coil and the engine mounts.

You can also take:
F20 Close ratio sports gearbox, air box (possibly won't fit the corsa engine bay), anti roll bar and manifold.

SFi airbox (on top of the throttle body) might not fit, so you'll have to shave the bulkhead a bit, or buy a Mantzel Powercap (or get one off the Calibra/Cav turbo they're basically the same). Airbox is dubious (if you want a panel filter), but you'll prob want to hear induction??

You will need to modify two of the engine mounts, one is too low, and the other need a new hole drilling in, or buy new mounts from MTech.
Driveshafts need to be modified. They'll fit the gearbox end, but won't fit the less splined hubs.

You could change the brakes and hubs to GTE/GSi ones, but the driveshafts will need to be chopped, shortened and welding back together.

As a rule, take everything from the engine bay, even the clips.
You can go all the way and add traction control and cruise control, just to be unique. Or go turbo and possibly kill yourself by going a bit too far. laugh

i want a c20xe corsa for c20let cors, that would be sweet. just seen in this months total vauxhall, the standard corsa with black bumpers hold a c20let engine and the only give away is the f.m.i.c poking out under the bumper, now thats SLEEPER.

Posted By: GazzA Re: Corsa Conversion - 5th Aug 2005 8:46pm
Well that plan went out the window, sold my car yesterday but am looking at a 1.4 16v Corsa sport which would be easier for an engine conversion... already comes with -

5 spoke alloys
S/S zorst
GTE brakes
Bucket seats
lowered 60mm

£1,500
