I bought my Escort in 1996

I bought this Escort MKII back in 1996. The car was mint unmodified and had only 60.000 Km on the clock. This Escort was actually one of my first cars and it didn’t take long before a huge stereo vas mounted and the car was painted in Red/Orange/Yellow; a typically boy-racers car…

Start of the "RR" project

After I had sold and bought back again the car (a couple of times) I began the “RR” project in the end of summer 2001. The car was now in very poor condition so a total rebuilt was necessary. I began working on the chassis and the building of the mounting frame for the 1997 Honda CBR 900 RR bike engine.

The frame was mounted directly to the front cross member without any vibration damping. In the first round the engine was naturally aspired so a 4-2-1 manifold was made

Moving on to the bodywork

A turret kit was welded in to hold the Capri III shock absorbers. The aluminium wheel arches at the rear are taken from the BDA Escort. In the front the arches was welded out about 6cm. Front spoiler is derived from an Audi RS2.

The huge rear wing and the side skirts are made of aluminium. The rollcage from Safety Devices was painted yellow.

Building of the drive train

The yellow mounting flange for the propeller shaft is fitted to the output shaft on the CBR engine. The rear axle is taken from a RS2000 Escort and is supported with upper 2-link and panhard rods. Final drive ratio is 4,11:1.

Gear shifting is performed by the gear lever beside the steering wheel, thru rods, ball-joints and a pivot-hinge.

Wheels and brakes

The brake callipers and discs are taken from a RWD Ford Sierra Cosworth. The callipers are mounted to the struts by a custom made adaptor plate. I use EBC Green-Stuff brake pads.

The bias adjustable pedal box is set up to match the different piston area on front /rear callipers. Remote controlled bias-tuning wheel on the dashboard.

The AZEV 7,5x16 / 9x16 rims where painted in bright white and fitted to the 45mm aluminium spacers.
