Citroën C2 Hatchback 1.6i VTS created:

Overall Rating
Price: £11,995 For: The C2 VTS looks the part thanks to its sporty bodykit. The manual gearbox, which it shares with the C2 GT, is a nice edition and replaces the VTR's auto 'box.
Against: The drive is not as sharp or engaging as we’ve come to expect from the best hot hatches. The VTS still suffers from body sway and the steering is lifeless at speed.

Performance Ride Handling Refinement
Nippy in and out of town Comfortable and controlled Capable of longer journeys with ease
Performance

A 125bhp 1.6-litre engine in such a lightweight car suggests plenty of spirited performance, and - unlike the VTR, which uses the sensodrive automatic gearbox - there is. The VTS feels more lively and sprints to 60mph in 8.3sec, more than 3sec faster than the VTR.

Handling

The VTS provides strong grip and its compliant suspension irons out lumps and bumps impressively. The trade-off for this comfort is a fair amount of body sway when tackling twistier routes, however. The steering also feels lifeless at higher speeds.

Refinement

In keeping with its sporty character, the VTS has a suitably rorty exhaust rasp. There is some wind and road noise at motorway speeds but it isn’t too intrusive. The VTS's low-profile tyres contribute to plenty of road roar, however, and the car's manual gearchange is light but rather sloppy.

    Buying Quality Safety and Security
Keen pricing from the start Cabin is well built Good safety kit for this class
    Buying

Citroen frequently offers special deals such as a year’s free insurance, and dealers should also be willing to offer discounts on the VTS. Low emissions mean the VTS, VTR and GT achieve a low company car tax rating, while fuel economy is a respectable 40.9mpg for the VTS. Servicing is every 20,000 miles.

    Quality

It’s too early to say how reliable the C2 will be, but it appears to be solidly built even if some of the plastics feel slightly flimsy. Citroen engines are well proven, although the Sensodrive gearbox is too new for an accurate reliability assessment.

    Safety and Security

The VTS comes with twin front and side airbags and anti-lock brakes, while curtain ’bags and stability control are options. The VTS also gains ESP over the VTR as standard. The C2 has deadlocks and its bigger brother, the C3, scored very well in our security tests so we expect the C2 to be as resistant to theft.

Behind the Wheel Space and Practicality Equipment
Easy to use Rear seat space tight for adults All have a generous spec
    Behind the Wheel

The C2 borrows much of its dash from the C3 supermini, which means clear instruments and simple-to-use controls. Translucent interior plastics add a dash of panache. The steering adjusts for height and reach, while the driver’s seat moves for height. The heavily bolstered sporty seats are supportive.

    Space and Practicality

The rear cabin is too small to carry two adults in comfort, but there’s enough space for kids and the two individual rear seats fold and tilt to boost luggage space. The tailgate is split horizontally to make loading easier and the boot has a capacity of 879 litres with the rear seats folded.

    Equipment

The VTS has a long list of equipment, including variable rate power steering, alloy wheels, electric front windows and door mirrors, sports seats, cruise control and rain-sensitive automatic wipers. Air-con and a CD player are also standard. Citroen offers a sporty bodykit for the GT, VTR and VTS. But the VTS gains drilled aluminium pedals, an aluminium gear knob and a leather sports steering wheel.

I cant believe these things are only an insurance grp 8, the Saxo VTS was like a grp 14.

I was getting quotes for like £400 for this thing, it is like an 8 second 0-60.

Very nice car IMHO
