Ok, the car has gone to Prosport today for its final set up etc.
Who is going to hazard a guess at the bhp when it comes out?
hmm ill go first thinkin about 210 but thats a complete guess
ok heres some help. Runs standard at 212 bhp, here is the new spec list...........

1.Whats intercooler purge?
2.Why a brand new 2.0 and not the 2.5?
3.Isnt the whole point of scoobys to have an unequal manifold legnth
4.I reckon circa 330BHP at the fly
5.What do u think of the GGR500STI8?
Thats why i asked questions 2,3 and 5. Read a feature on the GGR500 and its ace
1) cold air sprayed onto the front mount to keep it cold and air charge temps down.
2) didnt want to go 2.5 route, means insurance assesments etc etc.
3) yes but you lose the unique noise with a equal length system
4) good guess
5) nice but alot of money and again insurance issues.
550???? ROFL. The GGR500 is a good spec engine and thats not a bad way to blow 20k!! Features a 1.5 boxer lump with loads of swish parts on.
If u dont mind me askin, how much has all your engine work cost ya john.IE/ how much would it cost to get a fresh 2.0 turbo scooby to the power u'll be runnin
290-310 bhp tops depending on boost ..
when u getting the car back john.
i say 307.5bhp
396.5 at the fly, what do we win if we get it right ?
Well john wat was the outcome of tuning what did you get
320 bhp tops! wheres ur forged pistons and rods john???????
ohhhhhhhh charl you seem to know a lot about cars.
yer, but she still cant tell her ass from her nose!
gonna have a guess at round 300-320
good spot charl, amongst that list there aint no mention of new pistons and rods, chocolatay pistons and runaway-thru-the-side-of-the-block rods here we come
Scoop STFU no one wants to hear your comments, there not welcome. Stop reading the car mags and learn how a BASIC engine works (Like the questopn about if an Alternator runs off the finaldrive for instance) before telling people how to do there own cars - Instead of asking John why he didnt go for the 2.5, should you ask yourself why you never went for the 2.0? hmm
My guess is 360bhp
Well, for the reason i aint made of money, just sayin if i were to spend 7.5K on an engine id ensure the famously weak pistons and rods were uprated, otherwise as we all know,it may end in tears, johns already had a rod go when it was in the previous state of tune, and scooby went thru 2 or 3 engines.completely standard the boxer is strong, but tuned they are very prone to death.i know how engines work, and i was misinformed on how alternators work.
1st things 1st - Has John told you the FULL spec? The bottom end is brand new and either way, the topic was created to GUESS his BHP and not to **** off what he has/hasnt done. I dont think he'd plow 7k into something he knows will blow up, hes not a stupid person and has researched it
You know how engines work do you? The alternator question was a proper schoolboy error and whoever told you that was clearly having a laugh, I physicly bust out laughing as Iv been in charge of some trainee's over time and the best I could come up with was to send them for some spotwelds.
Do you know think an alternator is 'engine related'? Thats like saying you know all about fitting doubleglazing but think the glass itself is made of plastic
well,i hope it dont die, hopefully the front mount and perfect air/fuel ratio will stop his pistons melting.I didnt **** his method off either,i merely made a statement from what i have heard of highly tuned scooby engines.
not sure who told me about the alternator but it was ages ago, remember bein told, batteries cant be charged by just revving the car in neutral,it has to be in gear rolling,i believed that then that the alternator was ran that way,but as u know, when i asked u the question i had sussed that this could be bollocks myself, just makin sure.this aint about that anyway, nor is it about scooby engines dying.good luck john.let us know what the power is when its back
Am glad iv changed your wording now and at least your tried to encourage John about this instead of telling him how to do it. Lets just say I think John knows a damn sight more than you when it comes to scoobys.
Phew, glad you boys settled your differences...
Back to topic then, i think about 340 BHP realistically
Sitting here with a mate he thinks 375bhp.
Me well i havnt got a clue thats why my guess will be closer to the moon i think 388bhp
the 88 so i can be strange lol.
Going to try my best. Scoop, the STi bottom end comes with forged pistons and uprated rods as standard so ive got no worries there. Thats why i paid the extra for a brand new STi bottom end.
Jay, it was running at 363 before it went bang if that helps
400 bhp +?
I wouldn't have a clue!
417 bhp just a random number above 400 lol
i reckon it might just creep over 400bhp so i guess 405bhp??
i say jus a lil ova 400 so ill say 410-415bhp!!
im only sayin this cos i was there when john was on the phone talkin to the people doing his car so i have a rough idea. meanin i heard what the bhp would roughly be
Oi ya cheat
Ill let ya off though
come on what is it. also a garage can say what the engine should be putting out with the parts fitted but not every engine is the same so some might take well to the mods others might hate it.
So if they say 400 it could make 370 who knows
I would say with the right injectors and fuelling it could make 450bhp
