me mate has a GTI escort and claims he can hit 60 in just under 7 seconds its a totaly standard gti and i just cant see how it could be so fast acording to manufacturers figures it has 115bhp and does the 0-60 sprint in 9.2 seconds? i think he must be bullshiting seeing as an rs2000 escort can only hit it in 8.2? so he is basically claiming his car is faster than my birds corsa which has 125bhp and hits 60 in 8 seconds? and just under 7 seconds would be faster than a vts saxo and fiesta st and lexus is250 and is just a bit slower than a vxr astra 2.0 turbo! I SMELL SHIIIT!

lol I get the distinct smell of bulls as well!

What mods (if any) has he done to the car?

The new RenaultSport Clio (which is 194BHP) only does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds, and I am assuming the Escort will be at least similar in weight to it.

We can now await the Ford freaks opinions on this!

the car is totally standard and i just cant see how its phyisically possible to hit 60 in just under 7 seconds? has to be a lie actually it MUST be a lie.

If a std escort GTi can hit 60 in under 7 secs Ill show my bum in Woolworths window on a saturday afternoon.

Sub 7 second 0-60's require either power, lack of weight, or both. The Escort GTi in std trim has neither.

Hand him a mirror and send him to a corner to have a long hard word with himself tease

Book figure is 9.2 altho EVER SO SLIGHLTY LESS is possible standard. So he's bullshitting, end of. Even if he'd have said 8.5 i wouldnt believe him

Ive got the 1.8 115PS motor as found in the GTI in my car and altho i havent timed the 0-60 id say its not exactly fast.I wanna get it timed mind to see if i can get it nearer the 9.0 mark
Posted By: MrPhil Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 5th Aug 2006 3:27pm
take it as he "thinks it is as he raced a 7sec car"

mind you his "arse dyno" probabley says he has 200bhp raftl
Posted By: jonny vectra sri Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 5th Aug 2006 3:40pm
he just turned round and said he timed his car 0-60 and it was 7 seconds with a bit of wheel spin so he thinks wthout spining it just under 7. raftl raftl its funny aint it
Posted By: MrPhil Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 5th Aug 2006 3:46pm
raftl should rename this Laughter Page
Posted By: StuyMac Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 5th Aug 2006 3:54pm
raftl

The new Focus ST is about 7 secs to 60 and that has 220bhp

Also, if he has timed it himself, 60 "on the clock" is, in reality, only about 55mph tease

Mind you this aint the best thing I have heard this year, a friend of mine rekons she beat a RenaultSport Megane in a race from the lights haha.

And she drives a 1.1 Saxo!

To this day she is still admant that she beat it and the lad was deffo racing cos in her words, "he was trying his hardest you could tell from the look on his face".

Lol women hey!

Its a mad world we live in, the laws of physics dont seem to apply anymore, 115BHP Escorts doing 0-60 in under 7 seconds and 60BHP Saxo's beating 225BHP Meganes haha!

laugh

well we all know 1.1 saxo's are ssooooooooooooooooo fast. i seen one KILL a m3 (pity it was parked up tho raftl )

i remember in the redline mags years ago the editor renton had a corsa gsi with 15's on running 160bhp with the 1.6 his 0-50 was 4.9 where his 0-60 was 6.5.

the drag after 50 on such a car rapidly decreases the motion of the car.

thats exactly the problem with mine, my 0-50 is about 9 secs, but that extra 10 mph make such a difference smack

Just shows that even at his age (im guessing hes a reasonable age due to insuring a GTI) u can still be a complete noob liar twunt,no offence

IMHO 60 on the clocks is 60 chewy. All this 10% accuracy thing is a load of bull IMO. 60 will be 60,or very close to, i know my car at 47 is 47 cos i go past one of those radar speed readers that tells u ur speed, most ive passed it at was 47 and it said 47,my clocks said 47.Plus my Terminal at crail was 70MPH and the clocks said 70 as i was passing the line, hence both my cars have been very accurate when it comes to speedo reading
Posted By: MattLFC Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 6th Aug 2006 1:18am
The speedo accuracy is always going to be in question.

I have a GPS system and according to it, my Clio Fidji is about 8% out whereas my manual Clio RT is almost 100% accurate.

It is amazing how much difference a simple thing like having your tyres at the correct pressure can make. For instance, if my tyres on my RT are quite low, it can knock the accuracy of the speed out by upto 3 - 4%.

GPS is the most reliable way to measure speed other laser I believe.

I think GPS IS the most accurate way. Im not sure how accurate civilian GPS is as ive heard its less accurate than military GPS but its still gotta be god damn accurate and can measure u moving across the country at 60. I want GPS!!!

Laser and radar SHOULD be very accurate if all the components in the Transmitter/Reciever are built to a very special tollerance

Why would anyone want to spend thousands on an escort cossie when they can get similar performance from a 1.8GTI escort at a fraction of the cost.

If 60 on the clocks is 60 in real money in an escort...

How can Civilian GPS be different from military GPS? Its all the same system, the only difference being the speed at which it updates tease
Posted By: scoop Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 7th Aug 2006 7:44pm
Im not at liberty to discuss that with u mate. Lets just say that the GPS in the F3s "logs in" to the sattelites to gain access to absolute pinpoint accuracy, where this ISNT needed for civilian use

quote
"The United States military has access to GPS L1 and a second frequency, L2. The use of L1 and L2 permits the transfer of data with a higher level of security. In addition to heightened security, the United States military also has access to much more accurate positioning by using the Precise Positioning System (PPS)(using L1+2). Use of the PPS is usually limited to the U.S. military and other domestic government agencies."

Lets just say the US arent the only ones who can access L2 and PPS

Very recently L1 had the SelectiveAvailability feature removed (which was there to stop civilians,ie/ terrorists from having military precision in their positioning systems),it was decided that giving accuracy to within 10-20metres to road/boat users is worth a LOT of money (doubling GPS sales in one year alone)

So hook that up to the Escort to see how accurate the clocks are tease

I bet this Snickers bar, 60 on the clocks aint 60...

.....btw, Im that confident, Ive already take a bite out of it laugh

I'm with stuy, my GPS always seems to lagg behind
Posted By: MattLFC Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 8th Aug 2006 11:46pm
Its not the GPS "lagging" behind, its the GPS giving an accurate reading.

A speedo can be upto 10% higher then the true speed legally, but not anything lower.

Almost all speedo's are out, as I have already said, things as silly as having your tyres at the wrong pressure can knock a speed reading out.

A GPS on the other hand is not affected by anything other then roads with dense trees covering them, really thick cloud and tunnels. The way a GPS works out the speed is the time you have taken to travel from one co-ordinate to the next.

so what speed does ur GPS's say when ur speedo says 60 matty and joe?

or better put, when the GPS says 60 (thats when ur REALLY doin 60),what do ur clocks say
Posted By: MattLFC Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 9th Aug 2006 7:44pm
In my Clio Fidji, it says im doing about 55-56mph when my speedo is saying 60mph, however in my manual RT it says about 59-60 (almost accurate) when the speedo says 60.

I'm afraid it is being laggy. when i go around corners before it shows me doing so, I call that laggy, not a dodgy speedo/tyre pressures tease
Posted By: MattLFC Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 9th Aug 2006 7:52pm
It shouldnt be like that mate. The only reson it should lag at all is the update speed is only every 1 second or so.

Other then that is should be fine...

confused

I know my road angel says iam doin 56 when my speedo reads 60 an as i go faster the diffrence in readings increases although iam told the road angel has a couple of second time delay due to taransferrin info to be honest i dont think road angel or speedo are that acurate
Posted By: Steve285 Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 9th Aug 2006 8:27pm
An just to add my road angel said i was doin 356 mph the other day i was only doin 40 accordin to speedo eek an that was in my vivaro
Posted By: MattLFC Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 9th Aug 2006 9:04pm
The way to check is to stick at the same speed for a few seconds, cos the GPS systems do tend to take a second to update their speed.

Also, if you are under trees they can suffer.

My GPS has never given me a flase reading though, I would be worried about your road angel giving you a reading of 356mph lol!
Posted By: BMW Joe Re: escort gti 0-60 time?? - 9th Aug 2006 10:18pm
see, proof that 60 isnt 60, its 356 lol
