F1 2004 What's New?

I'm sure i dont have all the changes as the information is pretty scetchy at this time,
so if you find any new changes please post below.

  • NEW TRACKS
  • Bahrain will host the third round of the World Championship on 4th April
  • Shanghai circuit is the first Chinese Grand Prix on the 26 September, the 16th race of the season.

  • NEW DRIVERS
  • Giorgio Pantano - Jordan
  • Christian Klien - Jaguar
  • Takuma Sato - BAR (Back from 2001)
  • Gianmaria Bruni - Minardi
  • Zsolt Baumgartner

  • CHANGING TEAMS
  • Nick Heidfeld - SAUBER -> JORDAN

  • NO LONGER F1 DRIVERS
  • Jacques Villeneuve - BAR
  • Heinz-Harald Frentzen - SAUBER
  • Nicolas Kiesa - MINARDI
  • Justin Wilson - JAGUAR
  • J Verstappen

  • New Rules 2004
  • Under the new rules drivers will not face drive-through or stop-go penalties but will instead be given a post-race penalty. If a driver collects three of these he could face a race suspension.
  • In addition there are a number of requirements that apply to liveries for all cars and teams. Every car must carry its driver’s race number, which must be clearly visible from the front of the car, and the driver’s name must appear either on his helmet or the side of the cockpit. The team’s name or emblem must also appear on the nose of the car.
  • To help distinguish between a team’s two cars, the onboard cameras which sit on top of the main rollover structure are coloured differently. On the first car it must be predominantly fluorescent red, on the second car it must remain in its original colour and on any third car it must be fluorescent yellow.
  • Friday morning’s private test session and the first qualifying session have been abandoned.
Instead the opening day's track action will comprise two one-hour practice sessions,
in which all teams, bar the top four in the 2003 championship,
will be allowed to run a third car.
  • The driver of the third car cannot be one of the team’s nominated drivers
for that event and must be in possession of a Super License.
He must also have not taken part in more than six grands prix in the previous two seasons.
Third cars will be allowed to run in non-standard livery.
  • Saturday’s schedule will, as in 2003, feature two 45-minute practice sessions,
which will be followed by a new two-part qualifying session,
effectively 2003’s Friday and Saturday sessions back to back,
with just a two-minute break in between.
  • In the first part of qualifying the starting order will be determined
by the finishing order from the previous race, with each driver getting one timed lap.
In the second part they will get another timed lap, running in the reverse order of the times set in the first part.
  • Refuelling will be allowed during the first part of qualifying only.
As in 2003 though, set-ups and fuel loads cannot be altered between
the end of the second part of the qualifying and the race.
Tyre choice for qualifying and the race will have to be made by
0900 on Saturday morning, or by 1300 if both Friday sessions were wet.
  • In other changes, the pit-lane speed limit at most events will be raised to 100 kph;
the practice of fuel circulation for the purposes of cooling will now
be prohibited in parc ferme; and teams will allowed to use four drivers
during the season, not including any third driver running in the Friday sessions.
