What a change from the classic! I've never been in the "bug eyed" Impreza, but the WR1 "blob eyed" style is a revolution, the inside for a change is a nice place to be! No rattles, the plastic is still there, but I made my excuses for "saving weight"! wink

The low down torque is alot better than the classic scoobs, and as this is brand new didn't get to see it go over 3500rpms, (beeping everytime from the rev alarm), but it was still pulling really well. The sound is awesome,- still retaining the famous low down burble of the flat four, which in my opinion sounds more like an old style V8.

The handling is excellent, and brakes are awesome! (So they should be, being brembos!)

The styling is very classy for an impreza, no mica blue and gold wheels, but a silver/blue metallic colour and dark gray 18 inch alloys.

I'll give you all an update once it's run-in.

Yeah, a mate's.
I suppose it depends what you want it for, your classic will be very very light compared to it, so you might have the better end of the stick as it were.

On a related note, one of the guys from prodrive has put an American Impreza 2.5 turbo engine into a classic, this might be a possible avenue for you on yours, (since is would be cheap for you to do it yourself), they have alot more low down torque, and can take more of a battering than the normal 2ltr. There's a couple of 2.5 blocks for sale on scoobynet.

the 2.5s are non-turbos arent they? they have them in america because the 2.0 turbo produce more CO2 emssions. that doesnt make much sense to me, america's a place where they sell cars with 8.0litre engines like the dodge viper <img border="0" alt="confused" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions051.gif" />

No the 2.5s are still turbos as far as I know. The Impreza engine is pretty weedy without the turbo (Impreza Sports for example).

Dig displacement dosn't automatically mean high emmissions, they just stick **** loads (power sapping) of cats etc on them to stop it.

Rotary based cars would of been outlawed many years ago if that was true, they spit out far more gunk than any other type of engine, (rotary?! tsk! A fad!)

I suppose I better update this thread.
The WR1 has done 2000miles now so my mate has opened it up.

It's very fast, and very smooth.

Also that **** on Top Gear about all the understeer must of been down to the (road) tyres being overheated...first roundabout...wheee, proper sideways.
