I was looking at the Citroen C4 coupe, despite it being hideous to look at (IMO) it got me wondering, What is a coup'e?

How are the different from normal hatch's saloons etc

The only definition of coupe i can find is this

Quote
coupe n : a car with two doors and front seats and a luggage compartment
Does this not apply to every 2 door car?

is it the bodyshape then?

Even though a lot of coupés look fast they all seem to be heavy (the common ones anyway)

Think its to do with 2 doors and a boot, rather than 2 doors and a hatch (3door)

The Hyundai coupe is a 2 door hatch.

The old polo coupe is a 2 door hatch

I think a coupe is a 2 door car with a hatch. And it involves the windowline. Look at the old megane 3 door and the magane coupe(non CC)

There is no room in the back of the coupe, even my head was touchin the roof!!

Mine is a coupe, with a boot :S

The C pillar on a coupe is at a drastically different angle to saloons/hatchbacks, which essentially makes them more aerodynamic.

From what i could remember about the Astra, a coupe was a 4 seater ie no centre seatbelt in the back.

I may be wrong though

I think it may just be a word that sells cars?

The polo coupe, as above is a hatchback, i am guessing they may have been poor sellers, and coupe is quite an attractive word?

Like GTI, people assume GTI means a car is dead fast, but in the case of an escort, isnt the GTI the same engine as an SI?
Posted By: Basskiddanny Re: What is Coup'e? - 29th Jan 2005 11:40am
the gti is actually about 0.8 seconds slower 0-60 that the Si

it has a few little extra bits such as half leather seats (identical seats with a bit of leather)

Side skirts
15" Alloys in a different style to the Si alloys
The rear bumper has "spats"
Air Conditioning (Which some Si models had anyway)

Same engine with more weight it what makes it that tiny bit slower (this is according to fords book figures anyway)

So theres not really enough difference between them i dont think. If you buy a GTi escort second hand you will pay more just because it says GTi lol. The interiors can be bought for £150-£200 in excellent condition and are dead easy to find too!!

Anyway back on topic....yes maybe its just a word used to sell them....

One thing that puzzles me....why make a GTI badged car with a 5 door version....maybe its just me but it takes away from the GTI'ness....
