I love the Mk1 and 2 GTEs - it just a pity Vauxhall made the interiors so bland, as they looked the nuts on the outside.
Whats going on with the Plate on the MK1 though - they where a 1.8 wherent they
....you going 2.0 8V........or 16V
Verynice loved the red one i owned pitty it was falling apart around me.
You going keep it looking as it is???

a place behind the carphone warehouse, birkenhead car repair i think. anyway it cost £1000 inside and out, with the car already stripped
ouch, did they do all the prep work??
do you know if they supply power??
I'm afraid they dont supply power
how do you use power tools with no power Joe.
The MK2 astra should have been in the running for car of the year imho.

lol he's not even got to work on it yet
how do you use power tools with no power Joe.
I've only needed to use my 18v cordless drill.
Otherwise, I'd hire a genny or buy one if I had the money

i havent really got any decent pics of it, going to give her a clean and take a few tomorrow

thanks mate, where do you work?
i did most of the bodywork, all they really did was prep the surface and spray it.
was it worth the £1000 stu ?
yes and no, its a good paint job, but i've had hours of looking at it close up, and know where the flaws are. also rust is bubbling though in places, partly my fault as i didn't replace the metal. i guess to me it looks like a £700-£800 paint job. its hard these days finding a decent bodyshop, which is why i might give it a go myself with the proper equipment next time.
Loving the retro style of the mk1
Always have perfered the older cars
yeah its lovely little car
If you have got somewhere to spray the car Stu, you might as well give it a go .My mk2 isn't fantastic but is 100% better than what is was and only cost me about £100 for the paint
Dunno if you use it...
http://www.mk1oc.com/forum/Plenty of 200 quid mk1's on there, and parts for sale.
a fair few rust holes there already! once you have got it shotblasted, are you going to put new panels in or just repair certian parts?
Wow, are you actuall going to fix all of that
Jeeze it's astonishing what a seeming tidy car can hide underneath!! Im amazed you are bothering tbh, but dedication is the key I suppose, and if you want to do it, then it will be worth it!!
fook me! You sure that hasnt been at the bottom of a lake for the past 15 years???
Good luck with it lol
Crispy. Yummy, just how i like my Mk1.
Your a brave man

And your a mad man
If it where a classic, or even a rare GTE, maybe fix that, but just a Mk1 Astra....
Scrap it and find one thats at least 1/2 decent. Something that bad is just going to eat money, and once rot sets in - especially that badly, its fooked
And i thought ford were rusty
Wounder how much a garage would charge to fix that lot

i hate to sound like mr defeatist but i cant realy see the point in it as stuy says - its not like a special car to do this too (bit like spending a shit load of money on a treasure hunt and looking for gold, when you could be looking for dimonds at the same expence), but if its what you want to do then im happy to see the progress you make and good luck to you bud
i know.... its kind of dishearting seeing it, but im going to give it a shot, i mean its not going to cost a lot, old mans a fabricator welder so steel and welding isnt going to be a major problem. its just going to take a long time, ive got all the panels, im looking at 200 for the rest of the panels
wish me luck
Yer good little read that, you gonna make your own custom box for her ?

Stuy this the Mk1 GTE thread not the one for his normal mk1.
Silly sausage

Oh Eye.
Well, good luck, weldings all well and good, but you need good metal to weld to
Look forward to seeing how you get on...
Isn't the price of scrap metal going up now LOL
sadly it needed a bit more than welding this......... it needed scrappin.... pretty sad, mk1s are getting thin on the ground anyway let alone a black gte. stripped it nude before it went as parts are like chickens lips
RIP A933 TUV!!
