Posted By: Johnny Alan Re: punto driver kit car (locost) - 8th Oct 2005 5:27pm
Cheers scoop its running a 1600 pinto but am looking at getting a cam kit and twin webber DCOE's. Its cost me around the £700 mark so far. This engine is plenty for a car of this weight am looking for about 6secs - 60.

They do look nice and big in those ikkle arches. U thinkin of a change once its all complete tho? I assume once its built you'll start tweaking it? Carbs etc. Maybe a set of minilites 14x8? and a cool paintjob?
Posted By: Johnny Alan Re: punto driver kit car (locost) - 8th Oct 2005 6:58pm

rhys your crazy. but i love it.
Posted By: scoop Re: punto driver kit car (locost) - 29th Nov 2005 6:24pm
Ur back axle situation. Arent kitcars made using a lot of cortina parts, however, surely cortinas are rarer than escort mk2s lol. I will have a 1600ZETEC layin around soon and as i dont really have the wallet to build my own locost then u could buy it if u like. 90PS,how much power the pinto give?

I will be interested in this, would the engine come with any ancilleries such as alternater, starter motor. Will be interested tho, do u know if the holes were the gearbox mounts is the same as the 2.0??? . I dnt know much of the spec on the pinto lump all i know is that they r highley tunable. And yeah ya right scoop they rmade of cortina parts, but they are all the same except the width but dont think this would be a problem as i could work around it. smile

U'd get the lot mate, engine, box, loom if u ask soon enough, radiator if u like, anything required to run the engine in an escort u could have. The good thing with these engines (or rather the gearbox) is,theyre all interchangable.u could bolt the ZETEC to your current gearbox perfectly,or vice versa, im not sure what gearbox kit cars like to use, apparently the type 9 is a favorite is it not?

the 1.6 ZETEC isnt tunable really but i believe someone makes a manifold for 1.6 zetec in kit cars. then sort it with a free flow intake and exhaust and youll see 95PS hopefully, the only way to get more is NOS.So a good 35 shot will see u quick.

Rhys, Looking great. Dont forget to take pics as you go along to track the progress.

Why did you choose a 1600cc pinto and not a 2.0 or 2.1 pinto ? More power at the same weight.

I built a COBRA Kit Car many Many moons ago when i was in my teens and that was so much fun, talk about pride, when it all comes together its great. Over coming problems like getting a prop shortened to fit and things like that.

Great work matey thumbsup

Posted By: Johnny Alan Re: punto driver kit car (locost) - 12th Feb 2006 1:33pm
it been a horrible winter and was thinking of selling but change of mind and am going to stick it out, I am after a set of seats for it now and have just asked por fabrication if he will be able to fully weld my fron wishbone mounts. Then i will be able to concentrate on the back axle and getting that linked up and mounted.

Remember this?

I still have this. I was collecting all the bits, when unfortunately my garage was broken into and £1,500 worth of stuff was stolen, including welder, generator, engine crane, etc. The car was blatantly set up and they could see I was in the process of using the stuff, but they took it anyway. I lost interest since then and decided a couple of weeks ago I have to sell it off.

It doesn't take up much space, but someone else can have a go now!
