Cool so you did all that yourself including the carbon fibre
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 9th Nov 2004 7:19pm
Well not really. Got a guy in St.Helens to take a mould off my glass roof. He made two moulds then bonded them together. They make bodykits and rally equipment for International rally teams, Citreon and Renault direct rally teams, Porsche GT2 race series etc. They also import bodykits for all the japs cars as well. If anyone is after a bodykit, bucket seat or light pod set for their car, they will be able to supply you. They are the manufacturer and not a middle man or retailer so it saves you a ****load of money as well.
I might put a post about their details on another thread.

Thanks for the good comments. I used to have a 1990 Esprit carb turbo in Yellow for the past two years. I did quite a lot to this but sadly it had to go. Even managed to take it on the track just before I sold it. Best time I've had in a car! It cost £90 all day open pit in Anglesey and you got 20 min tuition.
Here's a list of mods on my previous car along with a pic:-
S4 alloys
Hi-Spec 4 pot front brake kit with slotted rotors and stainless steel braided hoses
Staitec adjustable dump valve
Forge race actuator to raise boost from 0.65 to 0.9Bar
ERL Aquamist Water injection kit
Carbon Fibre Sunroof
Genuine GT3 bucket seats with colour coded backs
lowered suspension
Stainless steel sports exhaust
SE/S300 front and rear bumpers
Clear front and side indicators
K&N filter
V8 rear spoiler
25mm wheel spacers all round

I'm a big fan of the Esprits, and there are two very nice examples. Jealous tease

I have been since I was a kid watching James bond movies. When we meet up, will take you out for a spin in it if you want?
I hopefully off today or tommorrow to buy some old scrappers (Lotus Elites). The seller owns a Lambougini Gallardo? in Crome Orange. I'll try and blag a drive in this and take some pics. If I do, will post on here.

Sometimes modding can go wrong! Well it's all about individual taste. Personally there are some features I like but IMO it looks a bit tacky.

Nic car, and it's nice to see everybody isn't going with Japanese.

On the subject of CF, I'm looking for a bonnet, straight copy, no fancy vents. Could you get a round-abouts price?

Hi there, the company is Magnum Motorsport. I will put a seperate thread on their details and what they do. Their number is 01744 612361 Ask for Dave Knowles. If you ring just mention my name Dave walters
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 11th Nov 2004 7:07pm
Thanks for the kind words. The yellow one I had modified. Although it was on carbs and standard was 225BHP at 0.65BAR. I added water injection and a forge race actuctor and ran a boost of 0.9-1BAR = approx 280-290 BHP. In the end decided to go for an injection ECU Esprit with a chargecooler. The chargecoolers work in a similar way to intercoolers but are more effecient.
Hopefully when I come to the next meet you can have a look around. Iam just waiting for my application to see if Iam accepted.

Thanks Vicky!

Iam currently bidding on some cool alloys on Ebay at the mo.

I don't think I'll win them as everyone seems to be after these. Failing that Iam going to have mine polished over the winter as a project

Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 2nd Dec 2004 5:51pm
Hi there,

Esprits don't cost that much. My last one was a 1990 H plate carb turbo and cost me £8500. I sold it two years later for £10500. There was also a 1990 turbo S which means it's injection but no chargecooler at Fountain Garages for £9.5K. It's just sold to a guy who Iam in contact with. As for insurance, it's a group 20 but you can put them on classic car policies. My last one only cost £295 for 5000 miles with breakdown cover.
My new one is a limited edition S4s which were only made 95-96. Iam thinking of selling mine for about £19.5K. Lotus dealers have the same car in with similat mileage for £23-25K. AN S4 which is the first of the facelift Esprits start from about £14K though a friend of mine bought one a few months back for £11K. needed a bit of work on it though.
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 6th Jan 2005 10:12am
My first simple mod of 2005 was a programmable wiper relay. I have the same switchgear as Calibras and Astras and went on a few sites. Found out that a VW programmable relay plugs straight into an Astra/Cavalier/Calibra making your normal intermittant wipe adjustable from 1/2 second all the upto 30 seconds. Very easy to use. VW dealer charge about £30, I got mine from a local breakers yesterday.

My next mod is Iam having my rear numberplate panel surround moulded up and made in CF. Should be ready in a few weeks. Iam also having mirrors and others stuff made in CF.

Very Nice! I like the colour of the old one too happy

Can we see a pic of the wheels you are hopefully going to be adding?
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 6th Jan 2005 6:13pm
The wheels on ebay went for too much. Might get the old ones polished as they are 18" spilt rims anyway.

It was nice to see your ride up close on thursday matey. Gotta say it looked damn fine, cant wait to see it after the mods you have planned are complete.

Didnt get a chance to meet ye but i guess theres always another meet. Anyway my compliments mate, sweet car. happy happy

Thanks, saw you pull up along side me at the lights as we were leaving. Like the graphics on your car. Will speak to you on the next meet if I can make it. Maybe take you for a spin if the weahter's clear.
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 13th Jan 2005 9:47am
For my next mod is a Hi-torque chip for now. Turbo comes in at baout 2500-2700 but there is an irritating stumble at 2900RPM which is on nearly all Esprits from SE onwards.
Chips to buy on their own cost about £240 then you have to cut out your old chip which I wasn't happy about.
I mate on mine has offered (if I send it to him) to professional desolder my old chip form the memcal, install a new chip holder and send it back back with old chip so I can revert back at any time for a grand total of £60!
What tops the icing on the cake is that he is going to copy his Hi-torque chip No.3 and throw it in for me! How can I refuse?
I'll sort this out in the next month or so, then maybe buy the red race chip which I know someone again who can do it for £120 instead of £280.
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 14th Jan 2005 1:56pm
My latest minor mod which is a programmable wiper relay. I have the same switchgear as a Vauxhall Calibra/ Cavalier/ Astra. It only cost a few quid and the results mean that I can set my wiper from 1/2 second to 30 seconds.

Over Christmas did another low cost upgrade. A ram air conversion. On my mid engine car, the air is sucked through the side vents on the rear quarter windows but goes through a silencer box first. IMO this slows down the air intake but makes the induction noise quieter.

Another boring mod, new 100W multicoloured headlights from the link Stuy gave me. Fitted them last night in the dark (clever move not!). The results are amazing. They don't look tacky like some I've seen, nice crisp light, well pleased!
The Driver's side has the new bulb in the passenger side standard. You can't really see much difference but on the road, it's another story.

My next mod is to hae the rear panel between the lights made up in carbon fibre. I guy I know will make up a mould hopefully this week. If all is well and one decent one turns out then I have a que of other Esprit owners wanting to buy them off me.
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 28th Jan 2005 9:38am
Got the first prototype for a carbon fibre rear panel and it was C R A P! Won't be going on my car. This guy reckoned he knew how to lay up CF but obviously doesn't know.
I have sent my spilt rims off to get a full refurb and polish. Picking them up from Sprayforce this morning and hopefully will be back on my motor today. Will post some pics when I get the chance

Here a few pics of my old wheels fully refurbed. Had the rims split,
the outer rim buckles taken out, kerbs and scuffs machined out, polished.
Inners blasted and painted.
Well chuffed as they look like new.
Really eye catching too!

Would u mind terribly if i tried to hump ur car. That is so gorge dave.Rims look the dogs. How wide are they . Lemme guess 11.5
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 3rd Feb 2005 11:44am
Rears are only 10" with 285/35/18" on. Front are even skinnier I think 8.5" with 235/40/17"
But yes now they have been polished they do look wider.
Iam now thinking of lowering it as it seems to look a little high. I want the wheel to fit on the edge of the arch.
Only down side is that I already hit speed bumps and ramps on petrol stations. Some petrol stations I've now banned because of the damaged it's caused.
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 21st Feb 2005 2:11pm
Right then, I've put the chip on hold for now. I have booked my Esprit into Cybox for next Monday to have a twin exit system like this one
[Linked Image]

Still can't make my mind on tip style? Going for 3.5-4" but do I go for rolled in or straigth cut? Also there was a cool looking 3.5" tip which tapered on the inside.
Got a good price from Cybox, lets just wait until we see the final results.
Hopefully be ready in time for the next meet wink

Hi John,

Thanks for their details. I didn't catch your name at the last meet. Iam a bit worried about what it'll sound like as Iam not blessed with having a long system which makes up some of the noise. Shorter systems from mid and rear engined cars sound crap and tinny. We'll have to see. If it's any good might enter the sound off though if I lose my cam belt, it's £6K up the swanny !!!
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Superdavelotus - Lotus Esprit S4s - 6th Mar 2005 9:11pm
Hi all, it turned out that the few simple low cost modifications added nearly 34BHP! A Decat pipe and a K&N panel filter. Also did a free upgrade doig away with the air silencer on the air box.
Can't go much over 350BHP as the gearbox won't take it.
Might just get a chip to keep the same power more more torque and get rid of the flat spot at 2900RPM.

Update on latest mods. Sent my ECU off to get chipped. Old chip was soldered in so had to be desoldered and a new chip holder put in. New chiphad loads of problems (engine check light coming on and fans too!). Had to put the old chip back in for now. Hopefully next week it will be sorted. Iam intially keeping the same power but the new chip gets rid of the flat spots and give 18% more torque and turbo comes in quicker.
Whilst I've been waiting, bought some clear front and side indicator lenses. The sides from Ebay (Renault 5), the front I had to buy from Sweden at £60! Robbing b*****ds!
