Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 11:18am
~Nice car Gary. Lovely colour too. The only problem with the colour is the local plod. I had the same problem when I had a yellow car. Take it easy or you'll soon be pin pointed out as a 'known car'.
Looking forward to seeing your mods. I'll also see you at the next meet.
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 6:04pm
my car is officially broke. was driving it all day today and then started it up after a good clean and its all jerky and judery and not as quick as it was!

took it to a garage and they said it could just be a spark plug thats broke or a coil pack and its only firing on 3 cylinders! i duno what im looking for to do it myself so ive gota take it to a garage, im well and truly pi33ed off!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 7:01pm
Sounds like water in the spark plugs mate, have you cleaned or steam cleaned your engine?

Give it time to dry an it'll be fine smile
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 7:03pm
yeah i have cleaned it you c0ck but it cant be that can it?
wouldnt the heat off the engine dry em out pretty quikly?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 7:07pm
Nah, i think its gotta evaporate or something. If it doesnt work in the morning i'll be very suprised!
Posted By: scoop Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 9:20pm
I agree with Ad. Itll clear in a while. I had a mate hu got a GTi and in his first week it broke very similarly. Its like they dont like bein ragged. Check the electrical connections to the sensors and plugs. He had a torn connection to somethin forcin 1 cylinder not to fire resulting in a backfire so violent it blew the bolts from the manifold/cat joint
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 9:43pm
It's water in the electrics (Spark or ignition). I did the same on my first Lotus and it didn't dried out for about two days. That was the winter though. In the end I sprayed everything in WD40 and it did the trick
Posted By: lazy_ben Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 10:10pm
He took the engine cover off before to have a look at the plugs. 2nd one looks a bit knackered, so hopefully itll be okay once theyre all replaced smile
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 12th Jul 2005 10:18pm
yeah coil pack aswel is bust i think so ill be geting one of them,. the guy down the road is fixing it for me, he's a mechanic from home so itll be in safe hands plus i dont have to walk miles to get home and pick it up!
Posted By: PAZ Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 13th Jul 2005 6:57pm
Sweet mate, glad you sorted it..

The system is the same set up as my VTR, i had to replace the coil pack on mine...

I also had a loose connecter on 3rd injecter causing engine management faults, but with that and the new coil pack job was a good one...

buy the way not sure how much coil packs are but i paid £330 inc labour for mine...
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 13th Jul 2005 8:40pm
yeah its fappin expensive! worst thing is it wernt even me who snapped the ****in thing! not even fixed yet im seriuosly anoyed
Posted By: stubbzy Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 14th Jul 2005 1:14pm
Despite the small setback Gary this is gonna be a sweet motor. I was seriously lookin at gettin one before my civic. The initial ideas you have for it sound great too.
I'm jealous of the speed you've got with this! When its back & runnin properly maybe take me for a little spin!!?? smile
Posted By: Meesh Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 14th Jul 2005 2:43pm
the juddery jolty thing i got in mine when me n jim cleaned my engine, ended up bein water in the dizzy, wiped and dried it out and it worked fine

back to the subject tho, car looks sweet mate, great choice! wink

I dont do anymore than 90 (kph honest) around the wirral as it is all too closed in. On the m6 and m74 tho traffic flows at around 95 and when its quiet i like to give it a spurt.
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 25th Jul 2005 6:50pm
engine is fixed, did it myself which was the best thing even though it ended up costin me quite abit!
just orderd a chrome manifold cover from spec R and just bought some engine cleaning stuff so thats my weekend plans!
what colour do i do the engine, cars yellow so what colour would look good in the bay?
Posted By: aceritz Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 25th Jul 2005 6:53pm
chrome, black or yellow
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 25th Jul 2005 7:17pm
im goin chrome anyway but i need another colour to add to the colour scheme i think
Posted By: aceritz Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 25th Jul 2005 8:57pm
black
Posted By: SL1D3R Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 25th Jul 2005 10:26pm
red and chrome tease go for it kid, nice to meet ya the other night at the rock btw
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 26th Jul 2005 8:43am
chrome and yellow, if you put blue, red, green, or any other colour in there it'll just look kinda stupid as it wont match anything frown
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 30th Jul 2005 7:14pm
when i got my car my engine bay was REALLY filthy so i thought 'best part of a gti so ill clean it'.

heres a before pic that a took a week'ish ago, and it is rotten

[Linked Image]

then i got some CD2 spray from halfrauds and it works suprisingly well,
spray first can on, that brakes all crap down, then wipe with wet cloth/spray with water, then leave to dry then spray on second can which brightens it all up. i also took apart my induction kit and gave that a good clean aswel as cleaning bonnet and loads of plastic parts. and here are the results after 2ish hours worth of work.

[Linked Image]

only part letting it down now is the rocker cover which will soon be chromed or powder coated (dont know which one yet), and ive got a Spec R manifold cover in chrome on the way aswel, thanks to adam for helping, and ben (kinda)
Posted By: dj_russell_plays_trance Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 30th Jul 2005 7:18pm
very nice m89y!!!!!spray it yelllow same as the car itll look better every1 always cromes id go 4 that in yellow then all ur pipes chrome would be sweet im thinkin of cleanen under my bonnet!!!i already sprayed under the hood and it looks 10x better
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 2nd Aug 2005 4:11pm

get it upto jamsport mate!!! £1700 and it'll be a GENUINE 170 bhp and will be hittin 60 traction allowing in under 6!!!
Posted By: scoop Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 3rd Aug 2005 12:01am
That looks ace clean like that mate. Is that 106 thing part of an aftermarkert induction kit? Looks pretty smart there.

I say paint ur rocker cover in high temp yellow. Its a pretty easy job (on escorts anyway) and you will be pleased with the results.

Good way to make it all the black plastic shine is spray a fair bit of back to black, mixed with a dab of FRESH engine oil onto a cloth and rub it onto all the plastic.A guy on FF done that to his escort bay and it made me sex wee. It all looks so clean. Im gonna do that to mine some time soon.
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 3rd Aug 2005 5:57pm
gona see how much it is to get chromed or polished, i just want anice shiney bay!

106 part is an enclosed pugsport induction kit, and for the blackness ive got CD2 spray from halfrauds which is well good

towny: what work they do on the engine then, where abouts is it?
Posted By: Daz VTS Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 3rd Aug 2005 8:06pm

Posted By: scoop Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 3rd Jan 2006 10:11pm
3 inch is subtle, 2" looks standard IMO,put it to a vote lol
Posted By: Gary Re: Gary: 106 GTI - 3rd Jan 2006 10:22pm

2" looks standard but is uprated for people in the know, sounds sweet as, pop bang pop smile (adam thinks it will sound barry and like aggy though lol)
