A Friend of mine owns a Vauxhall astra GLS 2.0L. Which he says is very quick.

Another person, who some of you have met, Tony with the white 2.3 prelude (came to MSC) seems to think this would beat my calibra in a drag race (on private land). I dont know if the astra is 8v or 16v. all i know is its a mk3 5door 2.0 astra in burgendy.

Does anyone have an opinion on this. would i win or would i loose. it kind of brings up the power to weight ratio, but i know the older astras aint that light.

Opinions/veiws please.

I think your car would win over a 1/4 mile. The Astra may pull ahead from the start (due to weight).
Astra has a mass produced 2.0 standard Ecotec engine, they're not built for anything but standard driving.
My mate has a Vectra with the same engine and he didn't understand the differences between the C20XE ('Red Top') and the X20XE ('Ecotec'). We both went onto the motorway and the Vectra disappeared in the rear view.
Unless his engine is a red top???

The Calibra would gain a bit on the motorway due to the low drag factor compared to the drag from the Astra.
