Cheers

not the sort of thing people shop around for! Might be worth ringing a few of the key cutting people. I know one in Heswall does them also one in west Kirby but they need to see it . Also they may not be able to reprogramme. I had a duplicate key cut without a chip as all I wanted it for was to open the doors. Think it was about £10. key and security place by Harvest Mouse pub pensby/heswall

Key cutting place outside Pyramids in Grange Road do a reasonably cheap price if they do your particular key that is. 0151 647 7464

Cheers Fish mate, this will need to have a chip as the doors have no keyholes.

I will scour the Thompsons local in a day or two and get on the blower to a few local shops if no-one can recommend anywhere decent.

Cheers Salmon but staying well clear of him through experience, got a key made about 4 years ago (No chip) for £17, tried it in the car and it snapped straight away, luckily managed to get the snapped piece out and took it back to him.
He was an absolute nightmare and was blaming me for being heavy handed with the key (Which i wasn't!)
Anyway long story short, he was having none of it and i nearly got physical with him coz he wound me up that much, so in the end he said he would do me another for half the price (£8.50) so rather than be locked up or go away with nothing i had to accept. The key lasted 6 months then snapped. Never again!

Timpsons in liscard are good, i usef the one in chester (work in chester) a few weeks back for a vauxhall key and he was spot on and charged me £0 for a key to be cut that i bought the blank for online!

Cheers for replies MrHanky & Demo, Im not sure what type of key it is yano MrHanky, its got 3 buttons on it, one for doors, one for boot and not 100% sure what the 3rd button is for as only just bought the car the other day and it only had this one key with it, possibly the 3rd is for the alarm but haven't heard alarm yet so not sure if it works or if car even has one. lol

demo i never thought of buying a blank online mate but that is a great idea, think i might do that then get it cut in Thompsons Liscard. Can chipped blanks be bought online mate and how would i go about getting chip tuned in if so?

Cheers lads

Christ Stan i never knew they were that dear mate! I would of haggled another 100 quid off the car if i had known the spare key was gonna be that much. I was thinking £50 max

A lot of people never factor in the cost of a spare key when buying a car.

Peugeot and Citroen ones can be obtained cheaply, but require a "key card" - a credit card that has a four digit security code on (and usually in a slot in the pouch which comes with the drivers handbook).

Without that code an additional key can't be coded to the car.

not sure about the programming, the blade bit broke on my key and i just transferred the electronics over to the new blank key and had timpsons cut the blade.

there's nothing to lose in just giving them a ring and asking how much it would be (0151 638 9508 is the number) to have a new key programmed.

Just gave New Key service a bell (0151-933-7494) and the Cost will be £75 for a Programmed Key (Call it £80 after Tunnel & Petrol costs) and the fella is really sound too. Thanks Katieanne that will do me! Not as cheap as your key but still 1/3 cheaper than most other places. Gonna go after the Weekend now. He just said ring him the day before to make sure he has a blank in. Forgot to ask him how much cheaper it would be if i brought my own blank key but think for £75 i might aswell just leave getting a blank as i will probably end up getting a dodgy Chinese one off ebay that snaps quick like the guys keys outside the pyramids. lol

Thanks again for all replies wink

Give Access at Ellesmere Port a try before you commit. They were cheap for a second key when I needed one (I coded it myself though)

Cheers Gibbo mate, i gave them a bell on Friday but they never had the Renault Modus price list on them for some reason, so gave the fella me number to call me back but he's not got back to me mate.

Thanks anyway

I've had three or four keys snap in the door handle, all cheap copies (Silca, etc). I only buy from main dealers now, I'd never buy anything as new as not having door locks, but I've spent 70 quid on a basic key before.
Is there anything worse than buying a new car and it coming with bent and worn out looking Silca copy keys from Birkenhead Market? laugh
