Every Wednesday my friend visits me.Last Wednesday as my friend was leaving a new neighbour came out of their house and told my friend that she had crashed into their car the other day.My friend was shocked as she had no knowledge of any impact but panicked and said I did not know I hit your car but will pay for any damage. My friend then said I come every Wednesday so the neighbour said well it must have been Wednesday. The problem my friend now has is that she has no recollection of any impact, the women said the other day and then said it must have been a week away. During the week she had not approached me about anybody visiting me. Question is should my friend pay up (she has no bumps on her car but some old scratchs)report the event to the police, notify her insurance company or just tell the neighbour that she accepts no responsibilty. thanks a lot for any response.

First thing to do is ask to see the damage on her car, from that you can usually match up where your visitors car hit it, if she did.

Tell your neighbour to jog on if they haven't got any proof ,some clown done it to me in bromborough years ago and he actually drove into my wagon and blamed me he claimed off my company without me knowing .I should have prosecuted him
tell the neighbour no chance.

withthat

Also if your friend did pay up i bet the damage woild not be repaired.
If your friend did pay up, it doesn't guarantee that your neighbour wouldn't still report it to the police and then get even more insurance money and get your friend done for leaving the scene of an accident.

Tell your neighbour to politely jog on once you've logged it with the police first. Also +1 to colour matching scrapes on the neighbour's car with your friend's car. Definitely take photographic evidence ASAP.

I feel sure your friend would know if she had hit a car with enough force to damage it, tell the complainant to provide some proof or involve the police, they will soon back down as they are obviously trying it on. Don't let your friend pay this chancer.

Your friend will pay up, thus admitting liability. Swiftly followed by the injuries they sustained; did they not mention they were in the car at the time. Tossers.

Your neighbour has made a serious accusation. It wouldn't hurt to notify the police and your insurers, but nothing will be done without proof.

Thank you all for help and support. We are so grateful.
I will post an update next time she visits.
Neither of us considered the possibilities that they would claim to be in the car or that they may have hit my friends car.
thanks so much

If its small damage then that could easily be the same amount of damage we see when retuning to our cars from shopping. For example a Tesco or Sainsburys car park. It happens daily.

The amount of wing mirrors we looks as a nation because a car is parked on the road. Its all a calculated risk. If the risk is too high we use Driveways or rent a garage.

Its all too easy to point the finger. For her to persuse the matter she needs proof as as above take pictures and match up the height of the two cars and see if it fits.

If her car was parked on the public road then anyone could have done it. Its a risk we all take.

If your friend does not think it was her then stick to that. Even go down to the police station and just ask?

The new neighbour is clutching at straws.
Hard luck that's what can happen parking on a public road without a witness.
