Every now and then I get a strong smell of petrol coming from the car, it's not all the time, I get it when I park up, or when am driving.

There does not seem to be any leaks.

And its not coming from petrol cap, as its a new one with new seal.

I changed fuel filter, a few months ago, but I have checked this and there is no petrol leaks.

I have checked all fuel lines under bonnet, and there is no leaks.

I can't suggest what it might be, but this may be connected with your high consumption that you reported.

Thats what am thinking, am going to take tank off tomorrow, and check breather pipes, and replace char coal cannister on tank.

As the smell of petrol is not making it a plesure to drive.

Failing that, I will just take engine out, and swap it with a spare I have.

Lift t back seat and check the pipes on the top of the tank, one of mine came off a few months back.

I had a Corsa a few years ago that constantly had a strong petrol smell and suffered from high consumption. Turned out to be a faulty mass air flow sensor, the sensor was miscalculating the volume of fuel needed for the engine meaning it was running rich. Check yours first before removing engines and fuel tanks.

I have had a new mass air flow sensor, and it's been tested and passed.
