Anyone noticed lately, when you give way to oncoming traffic fewer and fewer thank you.. Come on guys, politeness costs nothing...

i concur

i was on my bike (mountain bike not motorbike) the other day and was at a junction and could see this *** (make of car, not swear word, i just don't wanna name the make of car because i've done it before and been condemned for it) driver didn't want to wait any longer so slowed down and waved him out, what did he do? he cut the corner, and missed me by no more than a foot.. considering he was in a 1.5-2 tonne piece of shiny metal he could've had the courtesy to at least try to avoid me, especially after i let him out. but noooooooo the d*c* (now that WAS a swear word) decided to be an a*s and "rule the road" (as all people who drive said make of car believe they do)

i'm not being biased, i'm a pedestrian, a cyclist, a public transport and a road user and i have to agree, the state of driving, especially in the last 12-18 months, has gotten alarmingly worse, as has road-based-politeness.

If there car is better than yours, you seem to be the inferior motorist, and they won't lower themselves to thank you.

Whilst there are times when a "thank you" is called for, there are other occasions when a motorist who has the right of way and gives way can constitute a hazard and, far from being thanked, should be condemned.

When I learnt to drive, IIRC if you gave way when you had the right of way during the driving test, you would be criticised for it.

you are 100% correct, but in my case, my side of the road was empty he just didn't seem to want to wait for me to pass hence why i let him out.

Quite often it's been drivers of posh cars that don't acknowledge you.
Posted By: Sanchez Re: ignorant motorists - 23rd Jun 2012 6:14pm
When people don't even have time to say thanks....well that is bonkers. usually an expensive car can mean fuk you just as much as an old banger can but remember the shape, cost, size isn't a true reflection on the humans true fiction. Money, rich or poor can some times be circumstantial.

It's not only on the roads..

When your walking down the street people just walk were they want to go and ignore everyone else..

I was in London and it's ten times worse down there, red lights mean nothing..

Dont think its just in cars that people have no manners. These days nobody seems to he them. If you stand aside to let someone pass there is no acknowledgement let alone thankyou.

Yes i`ve noticed that also when it`s dark they tend to flash you and blind you for a couple of seconds and i`d rather they didn`t do that

Your correct as well .Iwas in town shopping last week and i stood aside to let a women passed and she stood in front of me and started looking at the clothes on the rail knowing i had stepped out of the way to let her passed ,this happened 3 times ,and i thought then how ignorant are some people by the wat the 3rd one got a mouth full
Posted By: Madge Re: ignorant motorists - 24th Jun 2012 5:55pm

I was walking down a narrow pavement with cars bumper to bumper on the right and a wall on the left. Ahead I see 2 chavs walking towards me with a pram and giro baby so I looked for a gap between the cars to slip into with 2 drill in one hand and a heavy tool box in the other. I felt we both had a problem facing us so I ducked in and it wasn't easy.

Did I get a thanks or even an acknowledgement of what I just did - no. At that point I bit my tongue and prayed for the wheel on the pram to fall off.

I would of looked back and said
"need a spanner mate"?

"giro baby"... I like that ! It goes nicely with "chav".

Thanks Sanchez.
