Is it normal for these cars (Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 16v) to rev on there own when started and then settle down.
Never had one of these cars, so it's new to me, does anyone know which sensors am best taking off and cleaning with carb cleaner.
my xr2i 1.8 16v used to do it mate.
may be a ford thing?
Comman faults on the 1.6 Zetec SE engine are Coil packs, MAF sensors and idle control valves.
From the symptoms I would put it down to the idle control valve, situated under the inlet held on by either 2 or 3 screws depending on year.
Take it off give it a good douse with WD40 then blow compressed air through it.
thanks, i will be taking of as many as i can find sensors, and cleaning with carb cleaner, got new air filter to go on and new pollen filter, and new plugs and leads, its in garage now getting new drop links
i have a 2008 focus tdci and sometimes mine will do it too
as mr phil said idle control valve will be gunked up !!!
Thanks all, I will give it a clean, when I get it back from garage later.
Right, put new plugs leads, mass air flow sensor, idle control valve, throttle housing, and its still doing it, but yet had codes read, no faults showing, so i thought i would reset ecu, but none of this had made a difference.
When first started it shoots up to 2500 revs, and comes down and settles to 1500 on tick over.
It has me baffled
I can't seem to find the map sensor on focus
Near the air box on the 1.6 SE.
mass air flow sensor is on air box, on 1.6 zetec, there does not seem to be a map sensor
