Had no idea they were there.

I have thought of remapping but not sure exactly what they do to achieve remapping, although exactly what it is!

Would appreciate a brief explanation.

Basically modify existing ECU or aftermarket in case you've uprated engine (fuelling, etc). Standard ECU will still be working on principles on standard engine requirements.

try dyno demon on the clayhill est in neston

http://www.dynodemon.co.uk/subaru/rolling-road/
Each car has a standard ECU based on a global assumption so to speak. if you buy a toyota they will assume that the quality of fuel will be of a minimum type and they will also assume all parts in the engine are standard.

If you program the ecu to tell it that actually you have a 3 inch tail pipe and a performance air filter AND you are going to be using super unleaded the engine can then be told that with those perameters it can push out more horses.... that's laymans terms any way.

Many cars are so generic that they are 20% under tuned as the manufacturer has no idea what country a specific car will end up in and no idea what the fuel quality will be like.

as you say, the ecu's have a generic map and they can suit some engines better than others even though they are the same. i know of one guy who has an impreza with ppp and on the dyno it was pruducing 35bhp more than it should have been.
my missus' impreza on the otherhand is running 13bhp down on the claimed figure

So, when the car is mapped, do you get more mpg?

So they reckon but personally if I were getting my turbo remapped I'd be more interested in power and acceleration. Who cares about fuel costs?
If peeps were bothered about that they would buy a smaller engined car.

I think you would be best asking the tuner about better fuel consumption rather than power.

Thanks for the kind words and recommendations guys, you can by all means try Dyno Demon, but as far as I know, myself and the parent company (Essex Autosport) are the only people in the UK that can custom tune the stock ECU of the Lotus Elise & Exige models - that is of course based on the assumption you have an interest in remapping the car in your profile picture wink I do all my mapping on a Dynapack hub-dyno, which unlike a traditional roller, won't ruin your tyres as its a direct mechanical connection to the hubs.

If its not the car in your profile picture, I can of course advise on any other engine management systems or projects, having been involved with HKS Fcon/Apexi PowerFC/MoTeC/Syvecs/Pectel/MegaSquirt/GEMS/Emerald etc over the last 10+ years smile

If I can be of any help at all, please drop me a PM or call 0151 639 9911 to discuss, I'm down on the Dock Road, so feel free to drop in to discuss things in more detail smile

I've also PM'd you some details.

On a totally different note, I need to pop down and see you at some point Dan - firstly to discuss getting my car down there (I now have my bigger injectors) and secondly I heard you had been talking to Alan Smith of the Wallasey Motor Club. Well, Im the news letter editor and assistant social secretary, so I need to have a chat about an artical / rolling road event wink

I have had a few words with Alan yep, he suggested using the site as the location for the monthly meet - which I'd be happy to do smile

Be nice to see you, feel free to drop down!

No worries bud - give some BIG torque the ol' SAAB motors! My old 9000 Aero was still passing MOT's with not so much as an advisory, SAAB build a good car!
