Getting a rattling noise from the underneath of my car, sounds like thin metal and happens when I go over uneven road surfaces, but stops when I apply my brakes. car seems to drive ok, and everything looks to be in excellent condition underneath. It is a 2007 focus estate with 85000 on the clock. I have taken a video to demonstrate the noise. Sorry about quality, it is done in lowest quality on my phone. If it stops when you brake, it sounds like the pads rattling round, or if it has clips stopping the pads rattling, maybe they have snapped. Try and find out which corner the noise is coming from and whip the wheel off and see if anything is loose and rattling round smile

Best not be turbo, apparently they are very expensive for my car. I have not noticed any white smoke or loss of power.

I would jack up front of car, and give wheels a good rattle see if they move or see if it makes same noise and you may be able to hear where its coming from

might be exhaust knocking or as some one said before, exhaust heat shield come loose

i had exactly the same on my car and was advised it was the brake pads!!i didn't think it sounded like it was but when i changed them the noise dissapeared!!

As already mentioned, check your brakes! There is a clue that it stops when you brake.
