Just wondering if this is a common thing! me and the husband are starting to get complexes because we are constantly getting nails in our tyres! We used to have a lodger who took exception to our car and put a couple of big scratches down the side of it as soon as we got it, when we threw him out a few weeks later we noticed first nail and at one point there were 3 nails in one tyre! SUrely were not just unlucky?!

Depends where you have been in the car?

it`s easy to point the finger but think about your actions before you go in for the kill wink

It may not have been your lodger.

I have just been the normal housewife places if you know what I mean, not hanging round naily places!! THere is all sorts going on with this lodger, he is doing all sorts and giving our address out still, even though he left here 4 years ago, so bailiffs knock on an almost weekly basis for him! We also looked on my husbands credit record and found out that credit had been approved on a car, so I found out more, phoned the car place, they looked on their computers and told us all my husbands work details, salary, national insurance number, bank account number but asked why we never picked the car up! We had never applied for a car, we had ours, just so happens this was in the same month lodger boy got his, the car place say that they had in bold writing that no car will be released without photo Id, probably what put him off going to get it! I would love to go in for the kill, believe me!!

Jees Jen that's way out of order omg

I hope you can sort this out.

So you thinks the lodger is still visiting?
Sounds like a stalking.

Well I'm off to get 4 new tyres again on Monday and I'll ask them how many nails are in these ones, then going to have to consider concealed cctv! I know lodger is still about, a few people have seen him, but I have no idea where he is living unfortunately!

Wow, sorry to hear your having problems, some people frown

Are they in the sidewall or tread?
Also, check if the nails look relatively new/clean or are they badly weathered?
Are they always the same size/length?
Make sure you keep them as evidence!

Your either very unlucky, been driving round B&Q during stock take day, or these nails have outside help. Ive been driving around 12 years now, including train yards, work yards, etc. as well as the usual places, and only ever had 1 nail. But that could be I was just lucky though.

I would recomend a cheap cctv camera with a DVD recorder on long record to watch your car. (cheaper than 4 new tyres) Make sure you put a sign in the window stating you are recording, for legal reasons, doesnt have to be huge, a4 should do. Google images for a CCTV sign to get the idea. You never know, the sign alone might be enough to keep him away.

I believe Home Bargains have a decent enough cctv camera ATM for around £30

And whenever you move the car from your house, check for nails leaning against the tyres. Easier to let the cars weight do the nailing than trying to hammer them in by yourself.

Just an update, got 4 part worns put on today, there were 3 nails in 1 tyre and 1 in another, I think 3 in 1 is too much of a co-incidence! I'm now looking for a little CCTV system to put up too, thanks for everyone's help!

Its quite difficult to shove nails in tires, the normal trick is to jam them between the tyre and the road surface, so that the weight of the car shoves them in when you move the car. To save yourself some money its worth checking round each time you are about to set off, if you find any nails get a plastic bag and put them in (using the bag - don't touch them with anything else. There is a fair chance they will have at least partial finger prints so take them to the police.

Also keep a log of every incidence, you probably have more than enough for the police to take action already with the identity fraud for the car.

In my experience the police tend not to bother with petty things like this. Still, worth mentioning I guess, just don't get your hopes up.

Keep a log, it can only help...

The past few days I have been checking round the tyres first, as suggested by someone, it's bad though that anyone would have to do that - feel like a policeman in Northern Ireland! (well, maybe not that serious!). I honestly don't think the police would want anything to do with it as there is no hard evidence, but we're DEFO getting a CCTV in, catch the little shit on camera!!

Try putting a CCTV sign in the window first, may make him think twice if hes being recorded.

Have a look for squashed potatoes, I don't want to give anybody ideas but I believe that this is a sure fire way of hitting the target. Shove nails in spud put spud under tyre. I prefer the little xxxt to "him",It might be a she, but definitely a XXXT.
