Air Con in my Smart is a little lacking, anyone know any decent and honest air con specialists, mobile or otherwise that can assist on the wirral.

I'd prefer not to goto Merc as they'll only get someone in anyways.

Kwik Fit on Woodchurch Rd are open tomorrow (Monday), takes about an hour, and if your car isn't cooler, you don't pay.

Bit of a funny one that, Id look in to it more as im sure you get stung somehow. Halfauds sell a refill kit which works.

How much are those refill kits?
I could do with one for my black Astra.

I think they are about £20 from halfrauds but im sure they will be cheaper on the bay, I might be your compressor though so dont think it might cure it wink

The refill kits are okay, but only to top-up a system really, ideally you need to vac out the gas hold it to check for leaks, you can't really do that with the kits, and the cheap ones don't even have a pressure gauge with them, and you REALLY need that smile

I've taken LOADS of our vehicles to Kwik Fit to have the air con redone, they check the temprature first and then do the work, if the system leaks, you don't pay, if it doesn't make it colder, you don't pay (and it's colder by a number of degrees, not just 1 or 2). I've driven away a few times for free, it's one of those "extras" that they do.

Oh yes, they don't do the "screw thread" (R12) type connectors (like I have on my SVX), but anything after about 94/95 you should be okay with.

I always go there for brake checks, they strip the entire system down and tell me exactly what it needs.... I then go and do it with no awkward bolts to remove as they'd done them all in the free brake check laugh

Ahh, it is cold but not freezing as it should be, I also believe we are suppose to recharge them every so often anyway due to bacteria build up.

If it just needs regassing, there are some good kits on Ebay that do the trick.

If there is a leak on the system then it may be a little more involved. Check the small print re Kwikfit - check they dont charge even if they find the fault is a leak.

Problem with aircon is we tend not to use it in this country in the winter. The pressure drops in the system and it breaks the seals in the system and the gas escapes. If you have climate control its good to use it all year round to keep the pressure up so the gas doesnt leak smile

I've tried to use KwikFit in wallasey before now for AC regas on my BMW 330i, They were hopless, had my car all day and then gave it back saying they couldn't get any gas in it so it must be full. They had been trying to put it in the wrong part (They HP side). typical KwikFit wallasey, heard a few shocking stories about job's they've messed up since.

I just bought the refil bottles from ebay (one with a guage), and a leak detector bottle too, and did it myself, worked fine. The lelak detector just sprays out a red dye if there is a leak, and is ment to re-seal, but I doubt this. If you have seals need replacing though, this method won't work.

Thanks for all the replys guys, I've seen the regas bottles in halfords, they are 29 quid for the gas and another 19 for the gauge / pipe - so for what its worth I may as well go for Kwik Fit (My closest one is in brom). The ebay ones seem just as expensive as halfords too frown

Well finally went to Kwik Fit in Brombrough today and after us waiting for 40 mins said they couldnt do it as they would have to take half of the interior out as the refil points are under the seats.....which is complete balls... but as I was feeling a bit queezy (just recovering from second bout of tonsilitus and we had to pick the youngun up from nursery...I just took my keys and ran!

Numpties, but...I was warned!!!

A/C is the only thing I would recommend KF for. They did a decent job for me, and it was as good as any brand new hire car I've rented in the US, and they are usually VERY cold.

Anything else, call Chris on here, unless he can do A/C too?

Don't bother with the A/C stuff from Halfrauds, I bought one when I had a horrible musty smell and it worked fine for that but it didn't make it any colder.

Don't use the one in Bromborough, and stay away from Ellesmere Port. the ONLY KF I would recommend is WoodChurch Road.

If you want to go back tell them that the refill points are accessed by removing the grille and the offside foglight (if you have one)
