Getting a grinding noise when braking so think my pads may have worn down, anyone know of the cheapest place to get this looked at? Got a voucher for 20% off at national tyres but know these guys can be a bit expensive any suggestions? Its a 2006 Vauxhall Astra

When I took one of my cars to National, they quoted me £340+VAT for the brakes to be replaced etc (only called in cos I was driving past and they offer free brake checks, and wanted to get them all done), went to my usual garage (Wirral Motor Services, Tarren Way, Moreton) and they quoted me £200, picked it up and the price was just under £180 including VAT.

Not sure where National get their prices from tbh, they have kids working for them and charge specialist prices lmao.

Yep, and the vulnerable (ie. those that don't know any better or have the time to shop around). But we shall continue to do our best on wiki to encourage people to see the light and avoid the likes of National and Kwik Fit etc (the latter are far far worse).

What were you getting done? Sounds a hefty old jump that, but then again they are a stealer.

We all live and learn though, shame its the hard way sometimes!
