Looking at buying a new car for my girlfriend
Went and had a look at one last night and all seemed good think I might go for it. However on the Direct gov dvla thing it says the car was manufactured in 2000 but was registered in 2004. However it is on an X plate.
Could it be an error on there database or am I being daft?

I've blanked out the reg plate so noone jumps in front of me and steals it

It's a Seat so doubt it... but surely it would have an 04 plate?... I think it's an error

You can buy a car without registering it when new, I think they charge for registration and plates when you 1st buy a brand new car, maybe it wasn't registered until 04?

Yeah I know there's a T reg Polo 2F G40 somewhere too. but surely if this car was registered in 2004 it would have an 04 plate and not X

You can buy age related reg plates that will put a standard looking reg i.e. 2 letters, 2 number, 3 letters on a car and it will still be an older car.
OR if a car has come from Ireland and had its plates change in this country, it will get a plate related to the year it was changed and not manufactured. I had a 1995 Peugeot 106 that had a X reg plate on it.

I've seen a b registered volkswagon beetle around Wallasey, saying that I think they only stopped making them a few years back.

it's come over from northern ireland but what I don't get is the date of first registration still says 2004... I'm assuming it is date of registartion on the 'X' plate...

I have answered my own query

its from northern ireland so was registered there till 04 then it came over and was registered over here 2004, but the reg on it now is according to date of manufacture which is 2000, if you get me, as they couldnt plate it up as an 04 plate as it would increase value fasly etc etc

Yep I concur Chris... well I hope it doesn't start causing trouble. Mind you i'm sure the truck will sort it out... It's like a whole new cars film going on in my head...
