Took us 7/8 hours to do the Micra in our lockup, but we didnt have the proper tools frown. Car was only just off the ground (No ramps) and we had to use jacks to support the gearbox and manouvre it around.

Needless to say, Japanese cars dont go back as easily as they are taken apart laugh

The Clutch is OK But the duel mass has over 30mm of play terrible it should only have 15mm at the most ;(

All the new Volvos have those flywheels don't they? Nightmare, it took 2 hours to change my Astra's clutch, you extract the input shaft from the side and then the clutch comes out of a hatch underneath! smile
Posted By: UrbanEx2U Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 9:10pm
hi guys just got back from a diagnostics course at jim barrow motor factors

lol

you think cars are bad now with the management systems

Just wait to see whats in line for all cars after 2010

all cars will have to have Tyre pressure monitoring systems also all will have electronic handbrakes to this is all part of the new car laws coming into place on new cars

wooooowww

the world going to electronically MAD

good look for the future

ROBBO wink

1 more thing when you change a battery on a new car you will have to tell the E.C.U what battery it is and amps it is or the car will not start

NOTE what a pain in the ass
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 10:00pm
These dual mass flywheels also kill starter motors - its a very common problem on the new transits omg

Dual mass flywheel, good Idea - NOT!! Ill live with a bit of lumpyness rather than having to replace the starter all the time.. think
Posted By: UrbanEx2U Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 10:06pm
yep the dust and the mettle filings from the duel mass kills the bushes in the starter

but some times the ring gear goes on the fly wheel and that also kills the gear on the starter motor

when the duel mass flywheels kick to 1 side they cam jam up the starter and burn it out also pop,s a main fuse from the battery

the duel mass eats away at the gear box if the play in the duel mass is very bad smile
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 10:17pm
Solution - buy a solid flywheel conversion kit grin
Posted By: UrbanEx2U Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 10:23pm
Thats what were doing at the moment changing all duel mass in to solid its only the clutch and the slave cylinder that is different

the only difference is is a smother take off on the duel mass

the new ford fiesta 58 plate,s have gone back to solid flywheels now thank god
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Robbo,s WORK/ clutch days - 29th Jan 2009 10:57pm
Pah, people have lived without them (essentially a harmonic damper) on Diesels up to now grin

A small trade off for the cost of the things plus the other damage they can do.

Had a Focus Diesel 1.6 Sigma in today

WARNING TO YOU ALL NOT TO BY A NEW DIESEL FOCUS WITH ANY SIGMA ENGINE (THERE CRAP) Nothing but oil leaks and engine failures

Back to the point this car has had 2 turbo's so far and now this 1 has gone all together. What has happened is the 6mm nut has come off the end of the outer turbo turbine and its travelled its way though the hole Turbo intercooling system and then Though inlet inducton intake and made its way into the engine DOING SOME NICE DAMAGE

Engine knocking and clunking its head off

i imagine most of the swarf and leftovers will be floating around inside the inlet manifold seeing as its on the coldside of the compressor wheel ???

lost a 4.5k cosworth engine when the compressor wheel decided to come loose in similar fashion to your turbo was gutted !!

hopefully youll be good though with yours and a lot luckier than me

and i suspect a similar failure to mine (compressor wheel nut coming loose )
which in turn kills turbo instantly ..

Hey Robbo, the boost isn't kicking in until 3000, only leaves me 1500 until gear up. Been reading around, most forums say no run in required for new turbo but might need adjusting? http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/353504/2412205.aspx
